Youtube User "Owl Rehab" Wrote us About This Video:

"They definitely do not hoot! This is just one of their many calls. This is a sound we hear often. Barn Owls have the most blood curdling scream, they often sound like this during their examinations, and also, in the wild. They have been recorded at 92 decibels! In no way, was this Barn Owl being hurt, this is a natural defensive call, to try and scare us. If you were to run into a Barn Owl at night in cold dark barn, this is what you would hear!"

This is a bird of open country such as farmland or grassland with some interspersed woodland, usually below 2,000 m ASL but occasionally as high as 3,000 m ASL in the tropics. This owl prefers to hunt along the edges of woods.

It has an effortless wavering flight as it quarters pastures or similar hunting grounds. Like most owls, the Barn Owl flies silently; tiny serrations on the leading edges of its flight feathers help to break up the flow of air over its wings, thereby reducing turbulence and the noise that accompanies it.

Compared to other owls of similar size, the Barn Owl has a much higher metabolic rate, requiring relatively more food. Pound for pound, Barn Owls consume more rodents—often regarded as pests by humans—than possibly any other creature. This makes the Barn Owl one of the most economically valuable wildlife animals to farmers.

Shame on you idiots...leave nature alone already!!!

  4. Wow, you guys don't even know what's going on and you are screaming at them as iff they are doing something wrong....

Pls DJ RavenSkye....then tell us whats going on if u know better.Because what i see is that they just hold the Owl into the camera "for nothing" besides that the Owl looks pretty stressed to me.And even when there is a "sence" h
olding the Owl like this it should have been on tape to for avoiding missunderstandings like..... they forced the Owl etc

LOL that predator is resilient and will be fine...quite emotive humans aren't we? sheesh!

They are holding the owl that way so it doesnt try and fly while they are administering veterinary care. This is a typical way of holding an owl so they dont flap their wings and injure themselves or others. The owl was "screeching" as a warning, this is typical owl behavior as it doesn't understand what is going on but I can assure you these folks know exactly what they are doing. A friend of mine was caring for a great horned owl, the owl clapped its jaw hard as a warning that it will defend themselves because it feels threatened, even though it was severely injured and he was doing the best he could as a wildlife rehabber to diagnose, treat, and release. I understand we as humans are motivated by emotions, but its assumptions and attitudes like those of the folks commenting that do more harm than good. If you don't understand anything about wildlife rehabilitation, call your local DEC for further information or google your local Wildlife Rehabilitation who can give you more information.

DJ RavenSkye i agree with you there people scream already before they know what is going on i my self have a barn owl to teach on schools and the way this person held the owl is in the proper way so people pipe down a little if you DON'T understand what is going on there look good it is filmed by a vet
perhaps that owl is sick or is getting a chip or ring this is don to identify the bird after it is captured by poachers or people who sell theme after catching theme out of there habitat

They know what their doing, or the owl would have been flapping around and possibly injuring itself further. Of course he's going to vocalize when that's all the defense he has left. Yes, he is stressed and unsure of what's intended but these people are only trying to document and assist this one. Everyone smooth down our ruffled feathers sheessshh!
