Published in 1996, this book can be seen as timeless in it's portrayal of the 'Wild Woman' archtype and the psychic bond between women and wolves.

It is written by Clarissa Pinkola Estes' PH.D, who is also an award winning poet and Jungian analyst in addition to being a well respected author.

Although this book is directed towards women, it is highly recommended to be read and enjoyed by all. The book contends that women and wolves share a pyschic nature and intuitive bond in their fierceness, grace and devotion to their mates and family/community (pack).

Folklore, fairytales and dream symbols are used throughout the book to restore the woman's neglected intuitive and instinctive abilities that have been lost. Modern society and multi expectations have all had a major impact on suppressing a woman's connection to her 'Wild Woman' self and her kinship to the nature of the wolves. Estes' also uses many wonderful quotes that are filled with deep insight and words of wisdom that are sure to be cherished by her readers.

Some great examples of her quotes can be seen in the following:

"A healthy woman is much like a wolf, strong life force, life-giving, territorily aware, intuitive and loyal. Yet separation from her wildish nature causes a woman to become meager, anxious, and fearful."

"The wild nature carries the medicine for all things. She carries stories, dreams, words and songs. She carries everything a woman needs to be and know. She is the essence of the female soul..."

"With the wild nature as ally and teacher, we see not through two eyes only, but through the many eyes of intuition. With intuition we are like the starry night, we gaze at the world through a thousand eyes."

These are but just a few of many that will be sure to resonate with those who are seeking to reconnect with their true selves. The advice in this book can also be felt in a very spiritual and inspiring way.
Many women who have already read this book consider it to be their "bible" and keep it close by to reread and refresh their spirits when needed. It is a very worthwhile and valuble book to help keep our true selves in balance during these very hectic and uncertain times. Read, enjoy and run with the wolves once again!

I Love this book, It's my "bible", it is one to keep and re-read as you need, very inspiring and strengthening, helped me through some tough times and enabled me to see myself as the womyn I was meant to be...LOVE IT!!!

  6. Love the book, bought it soon after publication, must re-read. 'Fraid I don't like the rock song, or the imagery much! Where are the women with wrinkles? The women who have been running with the wolves for years and carry the signs in their bodies? Beware of promoting sexual stereotypes alongside this wild nature, it might turn round and bite...! ;)

Beautiful words and imagery. I love the song! The rock song suits the images of the video. Thanks for the link.

The graphic makes it look like she's being attacked by the wolf. I know there are more representative ones out there!

I think anyone just taking a glance at this picture would get it wrong. It is not an attack. Look at the paws-- no claws, no teeth. This is definitely playtime. She seems to be part of the pack.

I have owned 4 copies of this wonderful book. The first three were lent out and never returned, but I loved this book so much that I thought the borrowers needed more than I at this point. About 4 years later I was telling another friend about the book, she went and bought it and borrowed it to me, and then gifted it to me. This copy stays close and will never leave~
