Today is International Women's Day and it is a day to reflect on how important women are in this world and how far they have come. They have always been the world's nurturers and without them the world would be a sad and sorrowful place. But they have also taken their place as world leaders, Ceo's of companies and just about anywhere you tradionally have found men.
But the fact remains that in this world of continuing climatic change due to factors such as global warming, women still remain more vulnerable and concerned than men to the effects of this. Not only physically because they tend to be smaller and not as strong in dealing with the physical manifestations of climate change but mostly because they tend to be the main caretakers of the family. For women in the poorer countries this often means that in order to feed and provide the basic necessities for their families that they often must travel farther in order to obtain this.
But not only women in developing countries are susceptible to these changes but also women in the developed countries such as the United States. Women there also disproportinately carry the weight of carrying for the children and elderly when it comes to problems with air quality such as asthma and alergies which are on the rise. Because of all the ways in which women are likely to feel the negative impacts of climate change, it’s no wonder that they, (being mothers are not) tend to be more concerned about climate change than men.
The up side of all of this is that when it comes to protecting and caring for their families, that women will also initiate change to deal with climate change and it's consequences. In developing countries women will be more likely to adopt local adaptation measures. In the U.S., women have the ability to rally over concerns and therefore affect policy changes. By understanding how climate change effects women, we can also see that no one is immune to this. In the long run, it is the for the benefit and survival of the human race and the earth's creatures that we all pay attention and take measures to try to reverse the damage to our Earthly home before it is too late.
The angel of the Family is Woman. Mother, wife, or sister, Woman is the caress of life, the soothing sweetness of affection shed over its toils, a reflection for the individual of the loving providence which watches over Humanity. In her there is treasure enough of consoling tenderness to allay every pain. Moreover for every one of us she is the initiator of the future. The mother's first kiss teaches the child love; the first holy kiss of the woman he loves teaches man hope and faith in life; and love and faith create a desire for perfection and the power of reaching towards it step by step; create the future, in short, of which the living symbol is the child, link between us and the generations to come. Through her the Family, with its divine mystery of reproduction, points to Eternity.

Thank you on behalf of the women of the world. I'm one and I have a question for you. When is Men's Day? If you answered 'every day' then you are showing your prejudice. Many men are oppressed also - into armies or working unhealthily long hours, at the bottom and at the top of businesses. So many human beings are opressed by poverty, others by the expectations of their bosses or their families and still others are driven by addiction to greed and the perception that there just isnt enough. Women and men both fall into one or more of these categories. We need to wake up and remove our shackles and cure our addictions. May all sentient beings know peace, love and freedom now.
