The everyday world that man has created is fraught with danger for the animals in the wild. Every way they seem to turn there lies a potential trap whether intended or unintended. Man's deadly influence has even filled the great oceans with plastic and toxic waste from which there is no escape for the creatures of the sea and the sky. Fish and sea birds have been found with bellies full of plastic caps/bags. Every year cars take the lives of millions of innocent animals just trying to cross our manmade roads. Even our fences that we have put up to define our territories are a potential hazard as you will see in the video below.

Then there are the intended dangers that man uses to the detriment of wildlife. Snares and steeljaw traps are some of the worst weapons used againt innocent animals such as coyotes, wolves, mountain lions, bears, etc. Animals caught in these traps lie in agonizing pain for days until finally dying. Some have even been known to chew off their own foot just to be free of the pain and confinement. Trappers are not required in many states to check their traps for days so there is no relief for the trapped animal.

We must make a conscientious effort to eliminate these dangers that are in our power to do so. Limiting the use of plastic and carefully recycling that which we do use is extremely important. Watching for crossing wildlife on our roads is a must. Many times these animals that are killed have babies back at home who will also die without their parental care. As for traps, there is absolutely no valid reason to be using these devices of torture. Efforts must be taken to eliminate the use of them around the world. We must think beyond our own little immediate world for we share this world with many other creatures. It is high time that we live up to that responsibility of ours.

The video below is a very touching scene of a man who comes to the rescue of a wolf trapped in a wire fence. At his own risk, the man carefully tries to set the wolf free. Although not all of us would be able to attempt this, this is the spirit of concern that we all must share towards our fellow brethern of the wild.

These men set and example that needs to be followed, (their actions that is, not their language), Most would have just pulled a gun and killed the innocent wolf that had no idea what the human implanted barbed wire fence would do to him/her. And did you notice that the Wolf did not even try to bite or attack the human helper. It knew he was saving it's life. I hope this helps prove to those who want to kill, kill, kill the wolves that they are teaching wrong ideas about the wolves.

  50. This guy is a hero. If wolves had medals they'd give him one. I hope he knows what an amazing thing he did. It's sad that this is an example of the rarest of all types of humans -- one that would risk his own safety to help a wild animal. Bravo.

Thank you to the man who helped the wolf...About the steeljaw traps and snares...I saw if we are aloowed to use them on animals we are allowed to use them on people. The animals are our brothers and sisters and there is no difference in torturing a little girl and a female wolf pup. Maybe that would open blind peoples eyes

Suntoksa are intelligent people, very psychic and have come to understand the white man's language. A combination of what's on your mind "freeing the wolf", saying, "We're only trying to help you" and doing the actions of cutting that barbed wire all spoke to the wolf well. Thank you for setting her free (look under the tail, no sack). You made Tunkasina (God)smile the day you gave your compassion and took care of one of our relatives in a good way. Many prayers and blessings being sent your way. Ho, Pidamayaye (You have made me grateful, thank you)

    thank you

  88. Anonymous says:

How rude of the wolf to not even thank the man. A thank you could have gone a long way to helping human/wolf relations. Instead, the wolf runs home to complain about the humans putting the fence there. Can't we all just get along?

  97. I seriously think comments from the opposite perspective are being deleted. I've seen what wolves do. I'm glad there are people who care about animals. I'm one of them. We raise cattle. I've seen calves that have been run down by wolves for pleasure. the wolves will bite the back of their neck and sever the spine, for fun at times. Other times they will eat their sex organs and leave the rest while the calf is still alive. We know people who've lost several horses from wolf killings. Wait until you lose a family pet or worse yet a child from one.

  98. Thank you guys so much! This video brought tears to my eyes.

  99. THANK YOU for taking the time and having the compassion to save that wolf.

Also, humans are the only species that kills for entertainment and pleasure. Wolves live on instinct. The only reason they would leave a kill uneaten is if they are chased off. In the case of a calf, probably the mother and other cattle stampeded the wolves, chasing them off.

My dog growing up on the farm disappeared for over a week...she came back home with a big gash in her hind leg....and from that day forward; every lightning storm would break a window; if necessary, to get into the basement of the house and hide until the storm was over...we installed hinges on one of the basement windows so she could get in easily..as well as a cleat on the screen door so she could open it..we think she was hung up on a fence like this wolf during some scarey thunder storms...

I thank the man for his kindness and gentleness toward the wolf, talking to him/her and gently cutting the wire. The wolf was helpless but knew you were going to help and trusted you with his/her life. The bond that was formed between you and the wolf during that time will be remembered by both of you.

Laura, I lived with wolf. I brought her into my home. She did not eat my children nor did she devour the our little dog or cat. She protected my two daughters, the little dog, and the cat. We had to take the time to understand her and love her. When she went with us to our friends ranch she did not attack their calves, chickens, or horses, nor did she chase or try to hunt the antelope at Antelope Island off lead. Take the time to know a wolves before you condemn them. My family and I have never had the bond or friendship with a dog like we had with Janai. She was a wolf and we respected her, excepted her, and loved her as one.

Wolves are not killers, they only kill to feed themselves, the pack or their young, not for sport. PPL do not want to understand this.
