Video of a reunion between a woman and wolves shows the ancient bond is alive and well

Wolves and Mankind have been connected together for a long time. Starting with the wolves most likely being drawn to the campfire and retrieving some meat scraps. Wolves and humans both tend to form strong bonds to their own kind so it wasn't too surprising that there could be a connection between the two species.

Early man also definitely had a history with the wolf by most likely learning to hunt with/from them and also learning some lessons of the importance of family and working together. The video shows some sweet moments when a woman revisits wolves and there is a joyous reunion.

How the wolf has influenced mankind ~

Wolf Song of Alaska has always maintained that humans stand to learn some valuable lessons from wild canids, and recent theorizing maintains that this may have been helpful to our actual survival thousands of years ago.

The most recent research comes from Australia, where scientist Paul Tacon and bio-archaeology consultant Colin Pardoe have published growing evidence that the wolf-human relationship may go back over 100,000 years. Some of their findings include the following:

Territoriality, so strong in humans, is not a trait found in other primates. Of course, all canids, including wolves, are fiercely territorial. This trait may have been adopted by humans.

It has already been shown that humans grew weaker in certain sensory modes while our brains grew larger and more complex. Accordingly, as our sense of smell diminished, we may have grown to rely on progressively more domesticated canids, early dog breeds, to help alert us to danger and to hunt.

Humans are primarily visual creatures, and as an outgrowth of the above two suggestions, some of the earliest human art and rock paintings could have been a form of territoriality, similar to canids marking territory using scent marks.

Hunting for large game could have been facilitated with the help of canids, a tradition which continues today, albeit usually on a more "sporting" level. Nonetheless, wolves are the most geographically dispersed of all mammals except humans, and their help might have assisted our own ancestors in living in harsher environments.

Most interestingly, wolves could have offered earlier humans some lessons in cooperation. Non-human primates have good parenting skills, but same-sex groups are not typically found living harmoniously. The cooperation evident in wolf packs may have given humans the impetus to cooperate more amongst themselves.

Tacon was quoted as saying that, "We believe there were several forces that led to the development of anatomically and behaviorally modern humans, and that the close relationship between our human ancestors and wolves was one of the key factors." So, those old dogs may have taught humans some new tricks.

My German Shepards act like this, from the greeting to dominate and submission. The differences are domesticated and wild. People ought to respect the wild animal instead of exterminate what they can't control.

I don't think wolves are being killed because they're a menace, that's just the excuse; they're being harvested by ranchers.

I had a wolf for 10 years. She was a rescue from abusive people. She proved to come out of her trauma of being beaten with the end of a garden hose. She was my best friend and a great companion. I dont reccomend every have a highbred without good knowledge of them. Which is what i have. I studied wolves most of my life. They are not dogs and cant be treated as dogs. Dont get one unless you know what your doing. My wolf died Nov 2011 at the age of 14 and a half. Very sad. Magnificent spirit. We were good together. Miss her so much. tc all

It was a pleasure to watch this video - and to see the true nature of Wolves. If people would only show more respect to Animals - yes wild Animals as well as our pets - and give them a chance. They are beautiful Animals - and you could see a great deal of affection in them towards the young lady who was fussing them. - Lovely video thank you for showing it to us all. Vivien.

The Wolf is my animal totem, and i get excited ,when i see a Wolf to me they are all my brothers and sisters.
When i see a Wolf has died or in stress .i get very angry . it is like attavking a relative.
The Wolves were very excited and very happy to see the young lady , she is and will allways remain a member of that family .the other wolves were excited
and they keeped the less senior members under control .all due to seeing a old friend!

  24. Vincent Cornish says:

Soooo sweet! My hybrid "girlz" are the same way when I come home by competing extensively for attention (wolf politics) and climbing all-over me, yet never mean with each other.
A question: Are expressions (facial, ears, sounds, body posturing, etc.) Anthropomorphic Projection; Or, after 100,000 years of Canid/Human interactions, their expressions are our expressions and visa-versa?

My soul is embracing you and your lost but not forgotten companion! You'll meet each other in the afterlife. Believe me! Don't be sad, you are blessed to have these memories...

  26. Ernestine Shemwell says:

Pack rank is obvious here and the love the wolves have for her. She totally understood their actions and none were out of line. Well except the ones who loved her out of turn as seen by the warnings they got. Even the teeth to cheek was in love and left no mark. I miss being with wolves. They don't lie. Their love is deep and forever. You can not love and be loved by wolves and it not touch your soul. They knew she was thin skinned so did not put their teeth on the back of her neck (also a wolf greeting), thus must also see her as an alpha. I am known as the wolf woman of Stratton. Rather live with wolves than most humans.

Beautiful. This brings tears to my eyes, fills my heart and moves my soul.I had the honor of raising and loving a beautiful female wolf for 14 blessed years. She was my child, friend, teacher and spiritual companion. There was not a day that her beauty did not take my breath away. I heartily agree with anon above (April 5th) that not everyone should do this and I, too, educated myself thoroughly before taking on this responsibility. They are not dogs and should not be treated as such. They are amazing creatures that should be protected from the greed and ignorance of humans.

God love those people that can love these animals and not try to destroy them.

This is simply wonderful, nature is wonderful. People on the other hand who believe they need to inprint their ignorance by destroying, are ....well it has been said here already. I wished I could have been there and felt them so Close like she did. Wolves are very Special. Bettina

  39. Jerry says:

This is the info I want to read. I just wish more folks would take the time to learn about these wonderful animals and give their full support and protection to them as they are faced with so many threats at this time.

  40. Anonymous says:

Humans could learn so much from the wolf but we want to destroy anything better or different than us...so sad and wrong

  41. Scott O J says:

    Wow. Just Wow.
What a Powerful video to watch. This video shows so much of the structure of a Pack. Hierarchy, the Wolves position in the pack, is so obvious and you can tell they consider her the Alpha female.
These "socialized" Wolves still display Pack Life, and still show their Wild side, but she is definitely included in their Pack.
    AWESOME!!!
STOP Killing these Beautiful, Powerful, Social creatures. They have more to offer Humans than just a target!!!

Pack rank is pretty apparent and it is that in which gives them success to getting any job done. It is like they are the masters to a chess game but not to the gun and that part is sad. That is as well why they are a threat to a rancher. A rancher never heard of the chess only monopoly. - water
