Queen's Brian May: 'I'd rather be remembered for saving animals'

Brian May was a part of the group, Queen, in the 80's as their guitarist. He recently spoke about bringing the band's late frontman Freddie Mercury to life as an 'optical illusion' , in a special 10th anniversary performance of the band's own musical We Will Rock You.

Queen is a huge part of his life, but he does have other interests. Many people know about his love of astrophysics, but he loves gardening, too, and has always been passionate about the welfare of the wonderful British wildlife.

As a matter of fact, he has turned his estate in Surrey, England into a wildlife refuge. May's estate, which he bought more than 30 years ago when Queen were at the height of their fame, is home to a collection of injured and orphaned animals. These animals stay at May's estate until they are ready for release back into the wild.

Some of the animals that live on the estate include 36 hedgehogs, seven badger cubs and two tawny owls. These animals form part of May's Save Me organization, for which May received an International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) award.

May is quoted as saying, "When I'm gone, people will no doubt remember me for Queen, but I would much rather be remembered for attempting to change the way we treat our fellow creatures." He added: "I suppose I've lived a crazy life, and watching wildlife brings back a sense of tranquility."

All Blessings to you. Would that everyone shared your dedication. It's not about one's "name" but rather about one's heart and soul.

I don't blame you for having those sentiments. The love of animals, and to have the ability, funds to help them is numero uno soul food. What else is there to spend $$ on that could give such a natural adrenalin rush ....well done ..... namaste xoxoxooxoxo

If I had the funds I would probably do the same thing!!! As it is any feral cats that fight their way to my door get to stay I usually get them fixed and taken care of health wise, if they stay (and they always do) great if they go, they always come back!!! Great for you Brian for doing something the world will remember you for beyond Queen, I do love Queen though!!!!!! For the animals very cool!!!

Intelligent Man, Evolved Spirit, Very few of those on Earth. How wonderful. I wish I could also do that. Write music, be in the company of animals who are happy and well cared for, raise awareness for the better treatment of animals, perform sometimes and watch the moon. And of course, be with my dragons, they would be vegetarian. Brian is a rarity to be respected and cherished. N.R.
