In this mesmerizing video, a GoPro camera captured stunning underwater footage of dolphins swimming off the coast of Santa Cruz, Calif.

What had started off as a typical day of fishing for Mark Peters and his friends ended in wonderment when the group realized the treasure they had reeled in.

Peters and his pals had been fishing for albacore tuna while the underwater antics of a school of Pacific white-sided dolphins were being captured by a camera below the surface.

According to comments on his Vimeo page, Peters said a GoPro Hero 2 camera with a flat lens and dive housing had been used to capture the footage. He added that a "torpedo" housing that he had constructed helped the camera to remain steady underwater.

The footage captured is, in short, pure magic.

However, while the beautiful Pacific white-sided dolphins were undoubtedly the stars of this video, albacore tuna also deserve a mention here.

As one of the seven tuna populations with the highest market-value, albacore tuna is one of the most commercially wanted fish species on the planet and is therefore one of the most vulnerable to overfishing, according to the World Wildlife Fund.

This could have been a beautiful video, if it weren't for the beginning. Seeing that the men on board the boat, hit & kicked the Tuna they just caught, was a little disturbing & ruined the beauty of the Dolphins. Not cool!

  2. I am in total agreement with Sherry. The jerk couldn't even stun the fish with three hard blows. Shameful treatment. You're going to eat that animal. It give it's life for you.
    Revoke their fishing licenses.

  3. I agree! Cut the first minute out and it will be a beautiful video! The shots of the guy trying to kill the fish ruined it for me. I suppose when you fish for a living, you get callous to the fact that you are taking a life. You obviously can see that the dolphins are intelligent, beautiful creatures. Same goes for the tuna! ALL creatures deserve to be treated with respect. DragonTat2 says it best: That tuna is giving it's life so that you can make a living, have a roof over your head, etc. Give it the respect it deserves! After all, if someone plunked you from your environment, wouldn't you want the same???

Yes, the beginning was disturbing. If you're killing something to eat, make it swift.

AND TO THE OTHERS NO I DONT THINK TORTURE OR ABUSE OF ANIMALS IS RIGHT BUT IF YOU REALLY FEEL THAT PEOPLE SOULD NOT DO THAT MAYBE YOU SHOULD STOP EATING MEAT AND FISH AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT OR SHUSH
