Bayou Vermilion District's Vermilionville will celebrate Native American Culture Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The free event features cooking and craft demonstrations, as well as Native American dances, a scavenger hunt and many more activities.

This year's Native American Culture Day will focus on living cultures.

Tribes scheduled to participate include Atakapa-Ishak Nation, Avogel Tribe of Louisiana, Canneci N'de band of Lipan Apache, Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana, Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana, Isle de Jean Charles Band of Biloxi-Chitimacha-Choctaw, Louisiana Atakapa Tribe, Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe and United Houma Nation.

Native American Day includes demonstrations, storytelling, ancient weapons, bousillage, bead ork, basket making, Healer's Garden tours, drumming, weaving, and archeology. Other activities include canoeing, face painting and gourd rattle and pouch making.

» 10:30 - 11 a.m. — Drumming and dance performances with Louisiana Atakapa Tribe, Isle de Jean Charles Band, Canneci N'de Band of Lipan Apache; Boat tours ($5 for a 30-minute tour)
» 11 a.m. - noon - Tribe presentations

» 11:30 a.m. - Boat tours

» Noon - 12:30 p.m. - Cooking

» Noon - 1 p.m. — Sharing circle: Hunting and fishing practices moderated by UL professor Ray Brassieur
» 12:30 p.m. - Boat Tours

» 1-1:30 p.m. - Cooking demonstration

» 1-1:45 p.m. - "Water on the Road," a film by John Sharp

» 1:45-2:15 p.m. — "Native Waters: A Chitimacha Recollection," a film by Tika Laudun
» 2-2:30 p.m. - Cooking demonstration

» 2-3 p.m. - Sharing Circle: Healing practices moderated by Brassieur

» 3-3:30 p.m. - Cooking demonstration
