In the most heartwarming inter-species friendship we've seen this week, an adorable puppy refused to leave the freezing calf he rescued from near-death.

Reddit user Oakenboken posted photos of his Labrador, Bosko, and a shivering calf the dog found on their ranch.

"His mother was too weak to care for him, and the cold and wet had nearly taken him," Oakenboken described on Imgur. "His nose was frozen stiff and his eyes looked dead, but he was breathing.. if barely."

Oakenboken's mother and grandmother took the baby calf into their home and tried to warm it with blankets and heating pads.

For four hours, the baby calf laid amongst the blankets, barely alive. Bosko refused to leave his side, staying with him throughout the night.

Oakenboken reported that the baby calf seemed to have recovered. After a few weeks of bottle feeding and a warm life in the chicken coop, the calf returned to life amongst the cows.

But he'd made a new best friend in the process.

I just wonder what's going to happen the calf who is "back amongst the cows." Cows don't live free on ranches in this world. I'm not trying to negate the awesomeness of the dog, but I hope these people turn from farming animals to farming vegetables and plants. Otherwise, this effort was pointless and the calf would have been better freezing to death - I hear it's pretty painless way to die.

This family obviously has enough love their hearts to care for their cattle. Though cattle they be, sometimes friends are found in the most unlikely places. KUDOS!

I completely believe this story. Our rescue dog looked after our cat's kittens, gently breaking up fights with his face and he would find the kittens for me when I lost them. They also played "tag" and races, all around the house. They were an absolute delight to see.
