Ihor Kor is a Canadian photographer with a passion and thirst for knowledge of the First Nations in and around Kenora Ontario, Canada.
He considers himself an amateur photographer trying to break into the professional arena by doing weddings and family photos so that he can do personal projects that he loves like shooting Pow Wows.
Ihor spent 12 years studying Sociology, anthropology, philosophy, and psychology in two universities in Canada. 2 years at University of Manitoba, Winnipeg and 10 years at University of Concordia in Montreal, Quebec. He graduated with an Honors in Sociology from Concordia University with Specialization In Native Studies and Life Chances in North America.
Recently (in June, this past summer) Ihor photographed his first Pow Wow At the Rat Portage Reservation just outside of Kenora Ontario and then another at Grassy Narrows Reservation about an hours North of Kenora Ontario. It was a very fruitful undertaking for him since he met a lot of people who traveled for Pow Wows on a regular basis and was able to capture some amazing dancers and their regalia.
Ihor also attended the Manito Ahbee Gathering and reconnected with many people that he had met In Saskatoon. He considered this an amazing opportunity to get in even closer and get to know more people through his photographs. He was well received there and has since been in contact with many of the dancers and is looking forward to reconnecting with them at future events.
His photographs from the Pow Wows are simply wonderful and take on a life of their own. Enjoy some of his incredible work below.

Wonderful pictures showing what a treasure of culture the Native Americans have. I am really interested in traditions, history, and current situation of all tribes and I would love to attend a pow wow at least one time in my life. But as far as I know, white people are not welcome. If I am wrong, please let me know.
I have the deepest respect for the Native people and I want to learn, not to steal - especially not the traditions and rites. But I am aware of what some white people do since shamanism has become popular among my white "brothers and sisters". And I really do not like their behaviour and their assumption that everything is available and for free.
