You will fall in love with these two bald eagles caring for their eggs, live on Eaglecam!

Few birds are as fierce and beautiful as the bald eagle, a predator who is both a mascot of the United States and (tragically) one of the victims of this country's expansion into the birds' traditional habitats.

Still, many bald eagles survive — sometimes by adapting to human civilization. That's the case with these two, who have made their nest in the middle of a suburban park in Florida.

According to the Eaglecam site:

The nest resides 60 feet above the ground, in a Slash Pine tree. The camera faces South East . . . These bald eagles have been coming to this nest for the past 5 years. They reside in this nest between the months of October and April.

Before building this nest in 2008, the pair had a nest on the opposite side of Bayshore Road. This location is now known as Eagle Landing. This mature, mating pair continue to make Southwest Florida their winter home.

Thanks to a local real estate agency's sponsorship of the live feed, you can enjoy the domestic antics of these eagles — who welcomed two new eggs into their nest earlier this week. The eggs will hatch sometime around the new year.

You won't be able to stop watching this mesmerizing pair as they do little things like fluff up the grass in the nest, and reposition their wings to keep the eggs warm. All while cars are zooming by in the background. Nature really does find a way. (Source)

This really is awesome! I can't wait until New Year's when the babies hatch!! I'm hooked--talk about a low entertainment level, but who cares. These are our national bird, and how else would we ever get to see any of them this 'up close and personal'!?! Just awesome!

  5. Anonymous says:

obviously there is a light shining on the eagles nest, I was just wondering doesn't that bother the birds?

Oh, Eagle; come with wings outspread in sunny skies.

Oh, Eagle, come and bring us peace, thy gentle peace.

Oh, Eagle, come and give new life to us who pray.

Remember the circle of the sky; the stars, and the bald eagle,

the great life of the Sun, the young within the nest.

    Remember the sacredness of things.

  13. Unknown says:

Just think, we can watch the eggs hatch 35 days from date of being laid. That is going to be awesome!!

It's amazing to see this eagle and how much care is given to the unborn potential of life but we should not disturb them. This feels invasive to me.

  17. Chrissy says:

From row seat to one of mother natures wonders. Just beatiful. Out on a road close by my home otside of Labelle we also have a pair of bald eagles.

  18. Unknown says:

Some question is there a light on during the night? Isn't that damaging to the birds? doesn't it interfere with their sleep patterns?

  19. Anonymous says:

sleep patterns and so many insects attracted :(

  20. Anonymous says:

What is the high pitched sound. It is so annoying. Can the eagles here it? Lighting up their nest at night seems rather cruel. Good for us but not for them.

  21. Anonymous says:

    ty what an amazing sight...............

  22. Anonymous says:

I am presure this isa night vision cam...for those making comments about the lght bothering the birds.

  23. Anonymous says:

i keep seeing comments about the lighting...is it infrared? if it is then most likely the birds cant see it. i have seen the cam on the eagles from the raptor resource project in iowa and they do the same thing. doesnt bother the birds at all.

  24. Unknown says:

It is not being lit up at night, it is infrared/night vision. They are perfectly fine. As for invasive, the camera is not moving in any given way.. it's not disturbing them.

Where is the male? I havent seen him for quite a while. Has anyone else seen any sign of him? -vanessa s.

  34. Unknown says:

The male comes and feeds his mate early afternoon.

  35. Anonymous says:

Thank you Dawn :) I was worried. Vanessa s.

  36. PocaHotness says:

Eagle's pant to regualte their body temperature, so their eggs stay at a certain temperature, thats why she gets up and changes places and moves the eggs around before she lays back down. She leaves the nest periodically to get water, never being gone for more than a min or 2. I seen the male Dec. 9th in the evening, he brought her a fish to eat, but I havent seen him since and been wondering where he is as well?

  37. PocaHotness says:

Also, remember this is Florida, so it will be warm and hot some days, it rained last night and was windy. But when the sun is out, it looks like they don't have much shade over the nest, so I'm sure it gets hot sitting there all day in the sun. This is nature, if they felt this wasn't a good spot, they wouldn't have picked it. Trust that the Eagles know what they are doing, naturally :) Thanks Dawn for the update, usually you would see the mate more often. Possibly on a branch nearby though.

  38. Anonymous says:

I saw him feed her 4:00 pm Sunday. I missed it yesterday. I was watching late last night and I saw her get up and stretch and she flew off to the right and a sec later came in on the left and laid back down! This is soo amazing! I can't stop watching her. I just keep this window all the time now.

  39. PocaHotness says:

FYI: in the wild, bald eagle parents must incubate the egg for a full 35 days. During this time, the egg must remain at a steady temperature of 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit. If the incubating parent is frightened away from the nest or leaves the nest even very briefly, the egg may become too cold or too hot, depending on the weather. Also during this period, the eagle parents continuously turn the egg with their feet. The turning process prevents the embryo from sticking to the inside of the egg shell. Occasionally the egg is dropped from the nest during this process and it cannot be recovered.

  40. Anonymous says:

My grandson and I just watched them trade places!!! This is GREAT!!!!

  41. PocaHotness says:

I keep the window open as well, have people at my work watching now 2! lol! The Eagle is very sacred in my culture (Native American) and this has been such a treat to watch these magnificent birds up close and personal! Migwetch for this! And darn it I missed them trading places, I been waiting for that! lol!

  42. Anonymous says:

I don't trust this eagle. It is a menacing, mean eagle. An eagle in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.

  43. Anonymous says:

thank you so much for all the info. I wish i could have seen them trade spots. darn it! eagles are so magestic and beautiful. I hope everything goes well with the chicks. -Vanessa S.

  44. Anonymous says:

It looks like the eggs are getting deeper and deeper and she keeps pulling at the nest. Is it possible for the eggs to fall through the bottom?

  45. Spechellegma2 says:

That was so great just talking about the male and what does he do...comes to the nest my grandson got to see him and the two eggs...but I found it funny that the female got up to stretch her legs and looked at him and he flew off...I said to my family...haha...typical won't watch the kids for a minute...the look on her face was like..REALLY!!!!! lol

  46. Anonymous says:

I am probably seeing things, but is that a gator at the top left of the screen at the base of the tall skinny tree? I keep seeing something move and it looks like a gator. Vanessa S.

  47. PocaHotness says:

@Spechellegma2 I thought the same thing!! That was funny!

  48. PocaHotness says:

Just saw them trade places! AWESOME! :)

  49. Anonymous says:

I just saw that son of a bitch stand up and flip over his eggs! I was all like, "you think you're cool because you can roll over eggs and keep the embryo from sticking to one side, but you don't even have opposable thumbs, bro. I'd like to see you try to actually pick up that egg." But seriously.

  50. Anonymous says:

so how can you tell the difference between the male and female? Anyone know?

  51. Anonymous says:

The male will usually display characteristics of a penis.

  52. Anonymous says:

A male has his band on the right leg? and the female has her band on the opposite, sorry I don't remember which leg is for the male...

  53. Anonymous says:

so where does the male sleep while she's nesting?

It looks like the light is attracting a lot of bugs. She seems to be under attack.

  58. Anonymous says:

There is no light. it's infrared.

  59. Anonymous says:

The male is probably sitting in the same tree or maybe another tree if he is not hunting food. Just because you do not see him in the camera frame does not mean he is far from the nest. And as far as the camera positioning goes, for those who think that it's sitting right on top of them this could not be further from the truth. I do not personally know about this camera but the ones I do know about are not even close to the nest, & some aren't even in the same tree. These camera's are so non-invasive that the Eagles do not even know they are there & being watched. There is no light, the camera has infrared sensors, like night vision goggles, it does not attract bugs this is just nature.

  60. Spechellegma2 says:

Well back to see the Eagles....seems to be doing well...only a few more weeks to go...can't wait to see the eaglets...this is so special New Year's is gonna be great...can't wait to see the male and female together again...has he been around lately to feed her????...

  76. Anonymous says:

I think one of the eggs already started to hatch on New Year's afternoon (in the Netherlands). I could hear tiny squeaks and also one of the parents squeaked at the eggs. When both were on the edge of the nest I could see an egg with a black dot, which might have been a small hole. Also three fish were brought in as if the parents already thought they had to feed the chicks. Can't wait to see at least one of the chicks hatch today (hopefully I'm right about the attempts to hatch yesterday).

I heard that if the first egg to hatch is a female chick then that chick will kill the new hatchling. If that is true I hope the first chick hatched is a male.

  85. helen says:

2 babies being fed yay and it's raining!

  86. Anonymous says:

Thank goodness!! I hope they both make it. This nest is a block away from my house. They lived across Bayshore for several years until Publix bought the property. Publix could not build because of their nest so mysteriously the base of the tree that the nest was in got all chopped up and the tree died forcing the eagles to relocate. I am glad they moved across the street instead of miles away.

  90. Eagle Watcher says:

If the first chick is a Female she will kill the other one. I was hoping the first chick was a male but if not the female chick that was first born will kill the other chick.

  91. Eagle Watcher says:

Chicks - Sometimes two chicks will survive, but it is not uncommon for the older eaglet to kill the smaller one, especially if the older is a female, as females are consistently larger than males. Should one chick decide to kill its sibling, neither parent will make the slightest effort to stop the fratricide.

  92. Unknown says:

The stronger chick keeps pecking the other one every time it pokes its head up to eat, and the weaker one just buries its head again! I didn't see the second one getting fed:( I hope it can survive....

  93. Anonymous says:

I saw them both being fed (a baby bird from another nest) but the older one does keep pecking at the newer one. As amazing as it is to watch it's so brutal and sad to watch them killing other baby birds to feed to the little ones.

  94. spechellegma2 says:

That would be awful I hope they both survive...I would have to explain to the kids about how nature survives...well until something happens we can just enjoy the sight of these majestic animals..

why are all of those people out there? They are making the eagles nervous!! The crowd just keeps getting bigger! Can't some authority stop them?

  101. Eagle Watcher says:

I NOTICE THEY ARE ONLY FEEDING ONE CHICK TODAY

  102. Anonymous says:

I saw the little one get a few bites earlier, but that was all. This is nature's way, but I don't know if I'll be able to keep watching much longer. I wonder whether a handler could break into the nest and steal the younger one out to raise by hand? Zoos are definitely not ideal, but I don't know that that baby will survive this situation.

It looks like they are both getting stronger! I just saw them sitting next to each other without attacking each other! Too cute! Mom went for a short flight and they both just sat there looking around. when mom came back that's when they started to fight again but this time the younger chick fought back!

  106. Anonymous says:

Has anyone seen the two adults together today?

  107. Anonymous says:

nevermind! I just watched them trade places. They both fed the one chick. The other one wouldn't pick it's head up out of the nest. I saw it move a couple of times so I know it's alive but it looks weak.

  108. Eagle Watcher says:

INSTEAD OF GATHERING AROUND BY THE TREE WHY DON'T YOU ALL GIVE THE EAGLES A BREAK!!! YOU CAN SEE THEM BETTER ON THIS WEBCAM!!! SERIOUSLY THERE HAVE BEEN UP TO 20 PEOPLE GATHERING OUT THERE.

  109. Anonymous says:

OMGosh I just watched mom and dad feeding both of the babies their dinner!!!! How awesome!! Man They are beating each other up now!! Talk about sibling rivalry!

Well said Eagle Watcher! I couldn't agree more!

  110. Anonymous says:

There was just a feeding, and both babies ate! The also kept both their heads up, even though one was biting the other now and then. There was a lot less aggression this time. Hopeful!

  115. Anonymous says:

This is just a slow torture for this poor baby!

  116. Anonymous says:

I agree. I think that the humans that know where this nest is, and don't save the weak one are cruel and irresponsible....it's torture to watch.

  117. Anonymous says:

so what the second baby was just born to be the first babies first kill?

  118. Eagle Watcher says:

It is part of nature but I am glad to report they were both just fed and the weaker one was pecking back at the first born so that was a good sign to me!!!

  119. PCOSMama says:

Feeding time, the littler one tried a couple of times to poke it's head up, but it did not get fed.

  120. Anonymous says:

like i said slow miserable torture for that lil one!

  121. Anonymous says:

so, Mom(or Dad) taking a break off to the side, letting the two siblings duke it out...they both seem to be doing fine. Both taking turns smacking one anothr. It's just like with puppies, they pick on one another...think they'll be fine...but as was mentioned before, this is nature...which sometimes can be cruel...humans can't "rush in" and always "fix it"

  122. Anonymous says:

That's not a very good analagy since puppies usually have humans there to stop them if they get too aggresive!

  123. PCOSMama says:

Just got a good look at both eaglets. Both were moving around, pecking at each other a bit, and they switched spots in the nest. They actually both looked about the same size this time, usually I can only see one really well, the other one has always looked smaller, kind of squished underneath. Perhaps they will both survive!

  124. Cindy says:

    Hello,

I noticed they you've posted a few times.
    I have a question.

What kind weather do you have at the moment?
(I live in the netherlands, that's why I ask)

    greetings,

  128. Eagle Watcher says:

Really if you want to see a bunch of Bald Eagles in Fort Myers go to the landfill on Zemel. there are a bunch of bald eagles out there.

  129. Eagle Watcher says:

Zemel Road Landfill is located 12 miles south of the City of Punta Gorda off of U.S. 41(Tamiami Trail). Turn right onto Zemel Road.

  130. Anonymous says:

Oh sweet finally the babies are sitting side by side and both are eating without beating on each other!

  131. Anonymous says:

I noticed today and now tonight 11:00pm that mom/dad isn't sitting on the babies. Maybe thats a sign that everone is settled down now? Does any one know if there is still a chance one could kill the other?(I seriously hope not!) They weren't fighting as much today and actually sitting next to each other and both were being fed. That's a good sign right??

  132. helen says:

looks like it could be quite warm there. mum panting and sheltering them from the sun. Not sitting on them as probably getting too uncomfortable and hot . last night they were more underneath, so wriggly though.

  133. Eagle Watcher says:

Human disturbance can have an impact on the bald eagle, as most of them need some privacy and quiet to breed. People wanting to observe or photograph the eagles can disturb them enough to cause them to abandon a nest. Use binoculars and spotting scopes for viewing, and keep at a reasonable distance.

I found this but did not find anything further about one sibling killing the other. It appears to me though that these two are fine. As they get a little bigger they will start playing tug of war with eachother and hopefully noone will fall out of the nest. The parents will keep feeding if one falls out but chance of survival if one falls out is minimal.

  154. The smaller chick isnt responding. :(

  155. Anonymous says:

i've only see one chick eat today. the other one looks weak. has anyone seen both eat today? i am worried . . .

  156. helen says:

everything looking fine tonight . Both babies looking larger and head/beaks changed.Dad has darker feathers and feathers round neck are slightly more defined in shape slightly larger. havnt noticed many more diferences.

  157. Thx Helen, and glad to read chicks are fine.

  158. Eagle Watcher says:

The mother is larger and the corners of her mouth go all the way to the back of her eye whereas the father's corners only go to the middle of the eye. The father has the dark circles around his iris. The mother has a more pronounced eyebrow which makes her look meaner and a grayish shading kindof like eyeshadow around her eyes. The mother is actually the lighter colored larger eagle. Also the father's head feathers are more brilliant and his beak is a brighter orange.

  159. Thank you for the info Eagle Watcher!!

  160. helen says:

Ah thankyou Eaglewatcher and your welcome Coree. alls calm tonight no longer tucked under mum.

  161. Both chicks ate fish cereal this a.m. of course the bigger one ate more. Both manage to shoot their poop across the nest and out, lol.

  162. Eagle Watcher says:

I saw the poop throwing happen a couple of times...It was pretty funny!!!!

  163. Anonymous says:

The smaller baby ate real good this morning. Mom brought an extra fish. praise God!!!

  164. Where are the parents getting the fish from? Fresh or sea?

  165. Eagle Watcher says:

caloosa hatchee river that leads into the gulf of mexico. The river is brackish (half salt/half fresh).

  166. Anonymous says:

Just saw mom feeding the young ones around 9 AM and now the babies are both resting. Everything seems to be going wonderful. It really is great they are getting fresh fish in their diet. Since it is goig down in the forties tonight and the babies are larger it shoulc be interesting how she keeps them both warm enough. I am always afraid one will get too close to the edge and fall out

  167. Eagle Watcher says:

Cold front coming through and that tree is rocking and rolling

  168. helen says:

interesting about where the fish come from. Do these birds get ringed/identified for records and any idea how many eagles there are? it'll be interesting to 'catch up' on the babes in the future.

  169. Eagle Watcher says:

Not that I am aware of. The pair has been in the area for a long time and have raised offspring before. No the florida panthers get collars but when they have offspring there are no collars that I am aware of either

  170. All doing well, eating fish 4:a.m. my time PST

  171. Eagle Watcher says:

Just watched both mom and dad each feeding a baby at the same time....now that was awesome

  172. helen says:

    thankyou Eagle watcher

  173. Whats the temp at night, now?

  174. Eagle Watcher says:

i piccoli aquilotti, Romolo e Remo, fanno ginnastica al mattino !

  181. Its cute to watch them sit on their butts. One of the parent open its beak real wide and so did the little chick, wasn't feeding time either.

  182. Okaaaaay . . . what's that silvery thing on the nest??

  183. Eagle Watcher says:

If you are talking about that silvery stringy stuff flapping by the camera that is Spanish Moss. It grows on all the trees down here. The other stuff in the nest is a piece of news paper.

  184. Ahhhh newspaper, did it blow up there or do you think its for warmth?

  186. Ugh!!! bigger chick still a bully! little chick plays dead.

  187. Anonymous says:

Does anyone know if they are male or female?

  188. Anonymous says:

Just putting it out there. It would be great if whoever set this cam up could put another one some where overlooking the nest and surrounding area to see where mom/dad sit overlooking the nest!?

  189. The parents are sitting on a branch next or near the nest. I can hear their chirp or screech.

  190. Eagle Watcher says:

They sit above the nest about 2 feet on a branch. It is above the camera but one of them is always there.

  191. What are the wing span of the Floridian eagles?

  192. Anonymous says:

I see a fence in background and people are there horse's? How long have these birds been in this tree? I'm in ohio and just love this thank you for having this

  193. Eagle Watcher says:

They have been in the area for around 7 or 8 years. They fly up north in the spring and come back to the nest in the winter to hatch their offspring. They have been in this tree several years. They used to have a nest across the street until publix bought the property and could not build because of the next. Mysteriously the original tree that the nest was in got chopped up at the bottom killing the tree and forcing the eagles to relocate across the street to the current nest. The property they are on now is private and is a horse ranch. Thus the fence and the horses.

  194. Eagle Watcher says:

CoreeMoonlyte, they are not Florida Eagles they are American Bald Eagles (our national bird) their wing span is: Females around 7 feet and Males around 6 feet.

  195. Lol, yes I know all that. I just meant Floridian cause they're in Florida. I shoulda said, Lower South East of the United States of America.Lol. I thank you also for having this eagle cam. Im from California, Central California USA, my back yard is the Sequoia Mtns.

  196. They didnt have fish for lunch this time.Couldnt tell what it was.

  197. Eagle Watcher says:

CoreeMoonlyte the Sequoia National Park is on my bucket list!!! It must be really beautiful there.

  198. It is, especially now with the snow Caps. I live next to the hills, Half an hr to the entrance of the park.

  199. Whoa!! I see a big dead bird they had for dinner. I see claws.

I was scanning through the comments, and saw you didn't know if the siblings killed each other or not. I have read that it is pretty common for the older and bigger eaglet to kill the younger one, though it that is not always the case. Watching this family is quite interesting, they are beautiful birds, and I hope that both the eaglets survive.
