Compassionate deputy who rescued stabbed dog plans to adopt her (Video -Photos)

Recently in St. John's County in Florida, a very vicious act of animal cruelty took place. A man by the name of Randall Bryen Hart stabbed his Border collie-Labrador retriever mix, Amber, multiple times in a fit of rage. He also slashed her throat.

According to the man's roommates, his dog and a kitten were playing when all of a sudden Hart grabbed the dog and drug her outside and began stabbing her. He later claimed that the dog had to be killed for 'attacking' the kitten. One of the roommates heard the dog's cries and went out to help her but Hart threatened him to back off.

It was at this point that the roommates called the police. Sheriff Deputies Sorrells and Kukar plus local animal control officers were then sent out to the home to investigate. Before they arrived however, Hart had drug Amber into the woods behind his mobile home. The witnesses told Deputy Sorrells that they thought he took the dog into the woods to bury her.

Deputy Sorrells then went into the woods to look for the dog and followed a trail of blood for about 45 minutes until he found her. After he called to her she came right over to him and showed no signs of aggression.

Amber was then rushed to Atlantic Veterinary Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, where thankfully she recovered from her wounds. Both Deputy Sorrells and Deputy Bobby Kukar, who also helped rescue Amber, pitched in to pay Amber's medical costs. Amber also received donations from concerned dog lovers who read her story.

The man,Hart, who had attacked her was charged with animal cruelty and is currently in jail. He has also relinquished ownership of Amber. As soon as he relinquished ownership, Deputy Sorrells and his family stepped forward to adopt her.

Amber has since joined Deputy Sorrell's family and his two other rescue dogs. According to Deputy Sorrell, "This dog will fit in perfectly with them." And Amber did.

What a beautiful dog! Thank goodness she survived and is finally in the kind of home she deserves! As for the former owner, I wish the laws provided much stiffer penalties for sick bastards like that!

  6. Bless you Bless you Bless you!!! And I pray animal cruelty laws be strictly raised and enforced. No one like that has any business EVER owning an animal.

So thankful you were there to save Amber from such a piece of crap. I agree with Marilyn, the owner needs taken to the woods. I hope the animal cruelty laws are strengthened to deter this behavior in the future and punish those who are so deserving.

Deputy Sorrells and his family are a blessing for Angel Amber <3 The disgusting abuser of Amber needs to get his in jail!!! There needs to be an Animal Abuse Registry (that the public has easy access to with a picture of the abuser next to their name)so shelters, breeders (ick) and anyone looking for a home for a pet can know before they unintentionally put an animal in harms way. If this scumbag gets out of jail I sure as hell pray someone takes the kitten/cat out of his trailer and gets it to a loving forever home (like Amber now has <3)... Cheyenne

I m still amazed at the cruelty of the human race. I truly think that we are getting poisoned somehow and that is affecting the development of our children. Its like some people are missing a gene or two. I thank the deputy for being so thorough in finding Amber. --he obviously is a animal person and believe me he has found a friend for life.

I'm glad Amber was rescued from this piece of human waste! No animal ever deserves to be treated like this. I agree he should also have the kitten taken away. God Bless these deputies. and Amber's forever family!!
