She's the luckiest moose in Siberia after rescue from ice hole by helicopter pilot and passengers (Video - Photos)

Just last week an amazing rescue took place in Siberia that was a matter of good timing, a lot of effort and a whole lot of compassion for a very pregnant moose. She had fallen into an ice hole on a frozen lake in Khanty-Mansiisk region of Siberia and was completely stranded much to her peril. A few more hours of being stuck in the freezing water would have most certainly caused her unfortunate death.

But as luck would have it out in this very remote area, a helicopter with 4 men aboard flew over the desperate moose and spotted her from the air. After taking a closer look they realized that she was still alive and in urgent need of help. So they made the decision to land and try to help her escape from her frozen death trap.

But first the pilot from the Uralhelicom helicopter manufacturing company went back to his base to get ropes and harnesses and then returned for the mercy mission of trying to save her. Then in a dramatic effort, three of the men began to try to pull her out while another one filmed the attempted rescue. This was not easy because the pregnant mother most likely weighed in at 600 kilograms (1323 lbs).

But with a lot of determination the men were gradually able to pull the moose out of the ice hole, one leg at a time. However her ordeal was not over with yet. The poor moose lay beached on the frozen lake, unable to move, apparently numb from an estimated 20 hours of being submerged in the water.

The men quickly realized that they had to get her moving. So the men first massaged the frozen limbs of the moose and then covered her with jackets to warm her. By this time the batteries in their camera had run out in the -7C weather so this part was not actually recorded on video.

At first she didn't move, but then as the helicopter left the moose ( whom the men had named Manka and had tagged her with a blue tie around her neck) she was able to stagger onto her feet. As they flew away she was seen walking away from the scene of her ordeal, in the Lake Arantur area.

Miraculously she was seen five days later, again from the air with her blue rope tie clearly visible. She appeared to be in good health. Inspired that they were able to save her, the helicopter team now wants to find Manka again and film the calf's birth later this year.

Watch the remarkable footage in the video below that shows the actual rescue and wonderful acts of kindness by the men who saved her life.

    Dear three men and pilot,
I am so glad you were flying and each of you agreed to sacrifice your plans for that day to help this moose, Manka I have never thought of a moose as beautiful or special, but with all the love and care you gave the new mamma, she sure does seem like the most special moose. Thank you for your bravery and hard work with this wild and beautiful beast. So excited you spotted her again, too!
    Take care, my friends!

What a compassionate act! Wonderful people, and blessings to them. To THEODORE who posted above: No, they did not drive her into the hole. The moose had been in the ice hole for a long time before they found her. Careful reading of the report will demonstrate.
