Undoubtedly, Officer Nick Shepherd would attest to the fact that his job as a police officer in Plattsburg, Mo. is one that yields the unexpected.

On a day last May, he responded to a call after a homeowner noticed that there was a large, brown dog who was in a very unfortunate situation: His rear leg was caught in a wire fence in her backyard.

After approaching the pooch, Officer Shepherd, wearing a tiny camera attached to his hand held radio, worked carefully to get the frightened and wiggling dog freed.

After just a couple of minutes, the leg was safely set free and the frantic canine ran off before Officer Shepherd could get a look at his identification and hopefully be reunited with his owner.

After trying for a little while to find him, the self-professed dog lover gave up and started back to his patrol car.

Thankfully, the story has an unexpectedly happy ending. Watch the video to find out what it is!

The video is shaky, but worth watching all the way to the end – you’ll love it!

what a dog - his tail was wagging all the way through, even while he was still stuck. But I find these videos quite annoying in a way - there is never a context. Was the dog returned home? I hope not a stray... What happened afterwards. You can't just turf a dog out of your car and leave him in the road! Don't just post isolated clips out of context - like the woman with the kissing wolf, for example.
