What a turtle star! Alligator gives terrapin a lift across marine park pond

This alligator is anything but shell-fish as it is seen giving its friend a lift across a pond in Sea World in Texas, San Antonio.

Shawn Miller, 41, captured the extraordinary scene between the red-eared terrapin and the alligator.

‘[The alligator] was swimming around the pond slowly and the turtle was simply hitching a ride,’ said Miller.

‘Then as they began to go under this branch, seen in the picture, the terrapin tried stretching to grab the piece of moss hanging down from the branch.’

Photographer Miller managed to grab this shot as he had his camera at the ready.

‘I think since they live in the same pond year round that they must have become very accustomed to each other and considered it no big deal to share the same space,’ he said. (Source)

Amazing that the gator didn't try to eat the turtle.

The term "terrapin" is typically used to describe turtles living in brackish or salt water.
