Jeff Turner spent a year in northern Canada filming the life of a wolf pack that was featured in the David Attenborough series 'Frozen Planet'. He created a whole film devoted to the wolf hunting chases where the pack chases a herd of buffalo until one gets unlucky.

The cameraman simultaneously learns and shows how the wolves survive in the harsh wilderness. He discovers whether the pack leader can pass its hunting skills on to a new generation of cubs. The pack leader is a wolf he nicknamed Storm and he is an amazing wolf.

The film-makers are hesitant about showing the actual kill during the hunt. “It’s hard to watch these predations, but death is a crucial part of the natural cycle,” they explain apologetically. The buffalo are enormous, weighing up to a ton in weight. If they stand their ground, the wolves don’t have a hope.

Sometimes standoffs can last for days, until the wolves find a way to get the buffalo moving. Then they can chase the herd for up to 20 miles until an adult stumbles or a calf gets separated, and they move in for the kill.

This is the kind of stuff that I love. I am a big wolf fan. And having all these people killing wolves for NO good reason makes me sick! Eye for an eye!!! But it's not ok when a robbers in your house and your dog attacks the robber. Really? But yet we can keep on killing exotic animals. Especially endangered animals. Why don't we get the opportunity to get the chance to do the same thing. At least we have a voice what do the wolves have?? Not just wolves but other breeds as well. We have to be the ones to speak up for these defenseless animals. I myself love seeing wolves, play, hunt, and its all nature. How are you going to change nature! So if a human being kills someone close to me like family do I have the right to kill that person, no I don't but yet disgusting humans get this right. I would love nothing more to have these people locked up somewhere and let them learn their ways of doing things. Lock them in a room make them watch documentaries on them, We need to open the killers eyes and make them see what we see!! We are a family, and we need to protect them. There are ways to protect your family without a gun, killing someone or another human.
Humans don't have to run for miles in extreme heat to get some food. Humans can just go to the store to get food. If a wolf would kill someone's livestock, it's because they are hungry.
I hate people that think its ok to kill a wolf for fun or any other animal for that matter. They just want to torture these animals why is that ok. This just makes me sick and I would love the opportunity to sit down with them and see what their reasoning for this is. Wolves are such beautiful animals and let God decide what happens in nature. It is not our choice to decide. Sorry but this kind of crap makes me sick and very full of hate towards people.

Jeff Turner & Family: Your work is awesome for the time you spent with the wolves. I love the way you captured the wolves hunting tactics. The heart felt you put into it, when it came down to how you felt about the wolves hunger & the young buffalo calf's death. I could feel the pull on my heart between the two. Your wife & family must be proud of you. She must be a great woman as your family too, to endure the time you spent away from them to shoot the wonderful documentary. Keep up the great work!

I have always loved wolves.. Just want to thank you and your team for such an awesome job filming and delivering to us their reality. Their survival is crucial and it saddens me that not only the wolf, but other species on this planet lives are threatened... I will continue to support this and any of you're makings/creations/work in respect for our wolf population... Thank you again.
