Michigan native Iggy Pop, a music legend and member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, has endorsed the Keep Michigan Wolves Protected campaign to stop the trophy hunting of wolves and restore the right of Michigan voters to have a say over wildlife policy. Michigan’s first wolf hunt in decades begins tomorrow.

In a letter to Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, dated Nov. 12, 2013, Pop writes: “As a Michigan native and someone who has cared about animals, both wild and domestic, for as long as I can remember, I was dismayed…that a bill you signed last May (S.B. 288/P.A. 21) gave Michigan’s Natural Resources Commission the authority to decide which animals can be hunted…which resulted in the first authorized wolf hunt since wolves underwent state protection in 1965.”

“To further compound the issue Mlive.com just unveiled several investigative reports that reveal the state used ‘half-truths’ and ‘falsehoods’ to support authorizing a hunting season on wolves in Michigan. The reports make clear that the decision to approve wolf hunting was based on fraudulent information and not sound science,” said Pop.

“I am asking all of my fans in Michigan to sign up and help gather signatures to reverse this decision and protect the wolf from future hunts,” Pop continues. “The senseless killing of these majestic animals for sport is a disappointment to the people of Michigan and a stain on its Government.” He called on Gov. Snyder to “do the right thing by staying the hunt and allowing the people’s voice to be heard” on the issue.

Won't do any good, sadly. Most people don't know wolves, don't like wolves.

  2. Dave says:

At least people are trying, don't be defeated by apathy before even trying, unfortunately I couldn't sign as not in the US.
People must fight for the wolves, it is the only hope they have.
I also think sport is not the correct word for wolf killing, sport it's where there is willing competition between competitors, what the wolf killers do is not sport, it is murder, plain and simple.

  4. Unknown says:

Governor you need to stop this madness, stop all wolf hunts.

Please, stop the wolf hunting. There´s no sense and good reason to do that. Wolves are just animals and they have also the rights ti live here. Just like human beings. What kind of people kill and behave like satistic? Is he human being at all? Or just the real evil devil?

  6. To benni I love wolves. I have for years. I have never seen one in the wild ,have often wondered what I would do if I ran into one when on a hike. I wanted to be able to just drop down and let them come to me if they would. Sadly I can no longer go hiking but I still want to know that they are out there running free. So I have statues, puzzles, books, and pictures since I can't have the real thing. If you live in Mich. You fight for those Wolves for me alright? It can help!

  7. Morgana says:

Its impossible to imagine a wold without majestic wolves, its a pity that Americans kill their tradition by exterminating magnificent wolves, unfortunately I could not sign the petition living in Athens Greece.

  8. Fili says:

The wolves do not need to be hunted. They are a major part of our ecosystem. And if you take them away, then the balance of nature will be messed up. The wolves take care of this naturally . They do not need the interference from humans. Please leave them alone and keep the a protected animal. They are a majestic animal and we can learn alot from them. STOP the KILLINGS !!!

  9. Unknown says:

This slaughtering of these essential animals must stop before they are all killed. Why eliminate them? this is morally wrong on so many levels.

  10. Unknown says:

what are you gonna do when you're done killing all the Wolves, the Coyotes, what's next the Squirrel Eagles the Gators what else do you want to slaughter, how about yourself. The Wolves were here long before us, give them their land back, learn to live with in their world.

  11. Unknown says:

Yes my biggest problem is the fact that as American voters our right to vote on important issues have been stripped away from us.If the Koch brothers had not bought our votes out from under us and the Democratic procedure was still in place our votes would most likely keep our Gray Wolves from being De-listed and the Mexican Wolves removed from experimental endangered status. The question is why have the American voters been robbed of their right to vote?If the Koch brothers are going to start running our government I guess there will be no more voting period. What about the taxes we pay to pay the wages of the employees of the government that is supposed to be looking out for the interests of the American people. So what are we paying people to watch as we get screwed now and has the entire Democratic procedure been thrown out with the trash.Did communism creep in when we werent looking. This question is for the Koch brothers since they now run things...when are you guys gonna stop...will it be when the planet is just a barren wasteland no longer suited for humans. Will that be because you guys have a living station out in space and have you decided how you are going to ruin space yet?

  12. Unknown says:

I don't live in Michigan, but I support the effort to keep the wolves in the endangered lists...please stop the murders...it's not trophy hunting...it's right out murder...we'll be next!

  13. claudette gamboa says:

I don't live in Michigan , but I am strongly opposed to killing wolves. you don't need them for food or fur to stay warm . I agree that the wolf should be keep on the endangered list. how can a person be proud to have a trophy such as this. h
Humans are more barbaric and blood thirsty, worst than any animal on earth . No wonder our world is the way it is now.

  14. Anonymous says:

I do not live in Michigan either but I do not think it is right to kill the wolves . They have a right to live too. I say NO to wolf hunting it should not be . Let them be.

  15. Anonymous says:

I'm a Wisconsin resident who opposes the killing and hunting of wolves. What gives them the right to pick and choose what animals live or die.it's not fare to the wolves who are here for a purpose.
