Wolves - like grizzly bears - encounter and communicate with other animals at kill sites and at grizzly bear rub trees mostly by leaving scent marks behind.

This spring, Parks Canada monitoring team was surprised to find a series of stunning images showing three wolves leaving their mark at a communication tree up the 40-mile Creek valley.

After carefully comparing their knowledge of the Bow Valley pack (generally black and grizzled gray in colour) and the Fairholme pack (all gray), they determined that these three wolves don’t belong to either one! . This upper Cascade Valley/Panther pack is more elusive and remote than those we see more frequently in the Bow Valley.

Parks Canada, also known as the Parks Canada Agency, is an agency of the Government of Canada run by the Minister of the Environment, who mandates it to protect and present nationally significant natural and cultural heritage, and foster public understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment in ways that ensure their ecological and commemorative integrity for present and future generations.

Parks Canada manages 44 National Parks (including seven National Park Reserves), four National Marine Conservation Areas, one National Landmark, and 167 National Historic Sites of Canada. The agency also administers the Canadian Register of Historic Places, a registry of historic sites in Canada.

Here are the first Wild Images we’ve ever seen of this trio of wolves!

I for one would not want to meet one of these beast head on. Beautiful and savage, the way they were meant to be.

Gave a smile to my face. Would love just to stroke that fur and cuddle. I settle for my 70lb. mix. I love to howl.
