It’s impossible not to smile while watching this sweet rescued fox named Dawn. Dawn was rescued by someone who thought she was a dog, but by the time her rescuers and the sanctuary managers realized she was a fox, she was too tame to be returned to the wild.

Now, she is one of six resident foxes of Nuneaton and Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary. Dawn looks to be happy, healthy, and in good hands while bonding with sanctuary manager Geoff.

Here are some myths that needed to be brought into the light. People have a lot of ideas about red foxes and its a good thing to set some things straight.

*. A red fox can breed with a dog or cat.
False. Although foxes and dogs are in the same family (canis) they cannot breed. Foxes and dogs have a different number of chromozones in their body. People come to me talking about the fox/ cat hybrid which is apparently a deadly animal. Foxes aren't even in the same family as cats. Its like telling a dog and a horse to mate.

*. Fully grown red foxes can't be tamed if found wild.
False. Half grown red foxes have been cared for by Fox Rescue and became extremely tame in the time before her rehabilitation. She would bark and wag her tail for attention and jump into your lap and crawl over your back. She was fully wild when she came but with some patience and gentleness, she became tame in a matter of weeks. (Source)

I can't help but wonder though, once they're tamed, would they lose all desire to be rehabilitated back out into the wild?

  6. Unknown says:

The problem with this no matter the good intentions the animal will lose its fear from man thus some idiot will think it's getting to close to them and kill it. Domesticating wild animals can become a bad thing.

She's in a sanctuary, so she won't be put back into the wild.

I see a heart, a brain, emotions, warmth & comfort, and a soul, at the very least. All wrapped up in a fox. Like humans, she can feel pain & joy.

Love to see people demonstrating compassion for others, including wildlife. Good to see there still are some people with a great capacity to love. I believe that is God Given.
