The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a dog that was having a ruff week.
The crew of the cutter Bristol Bay found a dog that was stranded on the ice of frozen Lake St. Clair Monday, about four to five miles off the coast of the Detroit suburb St. Clair Shores, the Associated Press reports via The Detroit Free Press. Tasked with icebreaking in the Great Lakes region, crew members were en route to extract another vessel that got stuck in the ice when they came across the dog with what looked like some foxes.
“They noticed three burrows the dog tried to dig for itself for protection,” Chief Petty Officer Alan Haraf told the Detroit Free Press. “They said the paws were bleeding, and the nails were pretty much down to nothing.”
The Coast Guard officials fed and cared for the dog on their ship, nicknaming it “Lucky” before handing it off to a local animal shelter.
Crew members assigned to Coast Guard Cutter Bristol Bay hoist aboard the ship a dog and gave it food and care before before taking it to an animal shelter.

Good job coast Guard.you were angels sent to rescue this poor dog.I can't believe he was out and about on his own especially at his age.I think you nicked named him perfectly Lucky. It was lucky you passed in that direction and lucky he survived. again I want to say thank you.

I hope Lucky went to a no kill animal shelter. Hope he also gets the medical attention he needs. I bet his people family have been worried sick with no idea where he got lost. My buddy got lost this winter and must have been disorientated by the harsh weather (My buddy was 15years old and had several small strokes). A kind young lady found him much further away than he had ever gone before. I'm glad she was able to coax him to go with her. She was quite resourceful because she found me quickly. After going to a local vet with no success she went to her groomer, who was also Cardi's groomer. We lost Cardi (died) a month after his adventure, our buddy had been tired and died of old age. I'm so glad Cardi was returned by a guardian angel. It would have broken our hearts not to know what happened to him (he could have froze under the weather conditions). I hope lucky can be returned to his people, or adopted by a wonderful family. Please update this story, so we know if Lucky needs a good home.
