"Anagehya- women of all the Nations - you are the strength, you are the force, you are the healing of the Nations." - Performed in concert at the Blue Deer Center  with remarks on the nature of traditional songs.

Vocalist, actress, dancer, composer, poet-lyricist, percussionist and choreographer, it’s hard to think of a style she doesn’t cover.

Joan Henry’s credits span the National Tour of Camelot with Richard Harris, the West Side Story 30th Anniversary Company, TV-movie Everyday Heroes, Walt Disney’s Pocahontas & LionsGate’s Blood Red Earth, appearances with guitarist Kenny Burrell, Pete Seeger, Paul Winter and R. Carlos Nakai, and a slew of recordings including two jazz albums with stellar jazz drummer Jack DeJohnette – Earthwalk and Music for the Fifth World - alongside John Scofield and Living Colour’s Will Calhoun & Vernon Reid.

Her works also include solo CDs and collaborations; among them, stories co-produced with her son GC, traditional songs, and contemporary creations with longtime musical allies Gus Mancini, Ken Lovelett, Dennis Yerry and other fellow artists. Something new is always in the works…

When not traveling to perform solo or with family & friends bringing life to Noyeh-Ongeh, Mother Earth, a Native /jazz/fusion band that goes beyond the ordinary concert….Ms. Henry teaches, presents and consults at schools, universities and museums from Wellesley & Vassar Colleges to the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian in New York City; works with women & youth in indigenous communities in the US & Canada; directs empowerment and arts-in-healing programs in upstate New York

Beautiful. Thank you. A dreaming friend shared this with other dreaming and women-honoring friends all the way from Denmark, to Australia, Uganda, Canada, and to me back in New York State. Grateful.
