A border collie mix went to great lengths to reunite with her seven puppies after she was found on the side of a road in near Taft, CA.

When they found a stray dog roaming the streets, the Watkins family couldn’t help but notice she was visibly afraid and exhausted. She was so starved that her bones were sticking out. Nikki, the matriarch of the family, decided to take the dog home and name her Gypsy.

Back at the Watkins’ home, Gypsy ate until her belly was full, and she was finally able to rest her head and get some sleep.

But as the night grew on, Nikki could tell Gypsy grew more and more uneasy. She stood on all fours, staring intently at Nikki. Something was wrong. “I just thought, you know… She’s missing something,” Nikki said.

The next morning, the family woke up and Gypsy was gone. Nikki and her husband took off to scour the area… when they heard faint sounds of whimpering coming from a dirt hole. I won’t give the rest away, because it’s simply just too incredible.

I will say, however, that Nikki’s motherly instincts led her in the right direction, and I can’t think of a more perfect person for Gypsy to have met that fateful day.
