A loyal pet dog in China has waited on a bridge for four days after watching its owner jump into a river, Chinese media report.

Heart-breaking images show the faithful animal sitting on the sidewalk of Yangtze Bridge in Wuhan of Hubei province where its owner reportedly took their life.

A local resident who intended to adopt the dog tried to pick up the pet canine on Friday. But the animal ran away.

Local volunteers said that they are looking for the pet dog in the hopes to find a new home for the loyal animal.

Du Fan, director of Wuhan Small Animal Protection Association, told the press that the dog followed its owner to the Yangtze Bridge on the evening of June 1.

‘We asked the bridge officers to check what exactly happened. It was really dark, [we] couldn’t see much on the surveillance footage,’ Mr Du told Pear Video on Sunday.

‘[We saw that] the person jumped straight away.’

The devoted pet was said to have waited by the bridge for four days until being picked up by a local resident who wished to adopt the poor animal. But the canine ran away when the resident tried to put the pet inside their car.

Mr Du said that his volunteers are now trying to track down the faithful animal’s whereabouts. He also pledged anyone to come forward if they had seen the animal.

‘We still hope to find a new owner for the dog,’ Mr Du said.

‘We think it’s too sad for such a loyal dog to stray on the streets.’

  1. So terribly sad. What a selfish, thoughtless thing for that owner to do to that poor loyal, loving dog. Before you jump down my throat. Consider: I have worked with the down troddened. Tried to build up, give hope to, pointed out alternatives. Most really do want help, support. But a few do not. They are to selfish, self involved. Giving a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Selfishly leaving everything to someone else to clean-up. And yes. I can give concise examples. Four come easily to mind. Assisted suicide is a different matter entirely. though many disagree with that. That's them. Do so hope this dog finds a truly loving home worthy of him.

Aww that poor dog, how sad!

  3. Of course the owner wasn't thinking straight but it's too sad that they didn't take the dog to a friend before they did this.

  4. Sad. I hope they find the dog and give him/her a loving home

I'm glad the loyal dog did not follow it's owner and jump off of the bridge into the river. Very sad situation all around. I hope the little pup is found and adopted by a loving new owner.
