In the Valley of the Wolves: The epic history of the Druids (Video)

The gray wolves had been absent from Yellowstone National Park for over 70 years after being exterminated from the U.S. A decision was made to bring them back to the Rockies and the first group was brought in from Canada in 1995.

The next year a group of 5 wolves was also brought in from Canada. This group was named the Druid Peak Pack. From then on wolves have thrived in Yellowstone but none so much as the Druids as they became the most celebrated wolf pack in the U.S.

Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Bob Landis has filmed the adventures of the Druid pack since their introduction to Yellowstone.

This is his third film on the wolves and for the first time they are finding themselves in trouble. After reaching the amazing number of 37 members from the original 5, they became the largest wolf pack on record, only to begin to decline. New packs were crossing their borders looking to claim their territory and the leaders of the Druid pack were failing with age.

This film is the three year story of the rise and fall of the most famous wolf pack in America. You will witness their battles against rival wolves to hold onto their beautiful home in the valley, the dramatic twists in fortune that eventually force them from their home, and their perseverance and devotion to return that will bring them back home at last.

With "In the Valley of the Wolves", you will also learn how the successful reintroduction of the wolves has changed the entire ecosystem of the park for the better. And sadly at the same time, you will see the threats that continue to follow these beautiful wolves on their road to recovery. It is a touching film that will stay with you for a very long time.

  1. I live with Lupus...the Latin word for wolf... and when I had open heart surgery years back I awoke protected and guarded by a white wolf. My teacher has been my guardian for almost 25 years and this movie is such a stunning tribute to the greatness of this magnificent creature. Imagine and Live in Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart
