Has the delisting of the wolve's protection also taken away the people's rights to question their Government?

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief when on April 14th, 2011, the much awaited for Budget bill was signed into law by President Obama. Now everything can return to normal, the government won't shut down and everyone will still get paid on time. Life goes on as normal.

But unknown to the majority of Americans, something else took place that day that had absolutely nothing to do with the nation's budget. And it was done in such a underhanded way and devious way that no real attention was paid to it. That day HR1473 and an attached rider, called Section 1713, was signed into law after it had been passed by both Democrats and Republicans in Congress.

Rider 1713 had been submitted by both Senators Tester and Baucus from Montana in a desperate attempt to gain political favor for their upcoming elections from special interest groups. These special interest groups are the cattle ranching and hunting organizations that provide monetary backing for the Senators. And that day the wolves of the Northern Rockies lost their protection from the Endangered Species Act which had been instituted in 1974.

What do wolves have to do with the Budget Bill? Absolutely nothing. But the ranchers who graze their cattle on the nation's public land for virtually nothing and the trophy hunters hate the wolves. So wasn't it all very convenient for the Senators to slip through a rider to benefit their political careers at the cost of hundreds of lives of wolves. This decision was not based on science but politics alone.

And the tragedy of it all is that the American people had no say in this. They were not given their rights to question the government because this was all done very quietly. Today the wolves, tomorrow what??? The fundamental basis of America's Democracy is the power of the citizens to question the laws made and actions taken by the government.

The other really tragic effect of this underhanded action is that now the Endangered Species Act is fair game for any politician that decides a certain species is in the way of their political interests. The rider in question was determined in US Federal Court to have not been in compliance with the law. But Congress has taken care of that also because the final line in the anti-wolf rider states: "Such reissuance (including this section) shall not be subject to judicial review." So the U.S. courts can no longer make any judgments on this issue.

This imbalance of power was not what America's forefathers had intended. And it is certainly not what the American people want or would any peoples of a free and democratic country. Please take a minute to let your voice be heard to President Obama and the United States Congress that this is an atrocity not only for the wolves but also for the rights of the people to have a say in what their government is passing behind closed doors.

It is only the ignorant that feel the need to hunt one of natures most beautiful members. They pose no threat to humans, and cannot fight back. This practice needs to stop, and allow nature to return to it's natural balance.

It breaks my heart that there are people who think it is a sport to kill wolves. They are fabulous animals and deserve the right to live in peace.

This is one of the most beautiful animals of nature.God make the white wolf and you people are sick to want to be putting any harm or kill what God has made in this world. Every animal was made for reason and purpose. People need to get God in their lives. Our world has changed so much for the worse. People are out wanting to do harm to animals. A stop needs to come at sometime and it should be now. These wolfs have a purpose in this world, do you have a purpose in this world. If so let them live an serve their purpose. If you think what of your purpose is in this world. Maybe something needs to be done to those that are against wolfs. This is just how I feel. Get out in this world and put a stop to the people that are doing harm to the innocent people that live in this world. God made both animal and man and women. Think of this very serious in your heart. And I mean in your heart, not your brain.

I will never understand the hunting of any of our large predetors wheather they be canine or feline, wolf or puma, it has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt they their contribution to the health of their native eco-system is substancial and that said eco-system suffers greatly without them, not to mention what their distruction does to our spirt. Humans need to remember that we were put on this earth to protect and revere this planet and it's resources and to tend to the well being of all of God and the Mothers creatures great and small. With each wolf, puma, or any of our other animal brothers and sisters, along with the resources that the Mother and Father have provided for us that we destroy we only diminish ourselves and our spirits.

What a tragedy! I witnessed a pack of wolves running in Banff National Park in Canada ten years ago and I knew I had witnessed something truly special. When I read this article it broke my heart. Stupid people are dangerous! Unfortunately, too many of them are disguised in suits. I fear that stupid people are too numerous (and too many of them are in positions of power) and our planet is in serious jeopardy because of it. They won't be satisfied until the last wolf is dead. Maybe then they will realize the tragedy of their shortsightedness.

Killing animals for sport is despicable. Let this gracious animal exist without threat of cruelty, maiming or extinction !

  9. Lori J. Schiele says:

Unfortunately, the people who passed this bill are just as ignorant as the people who think that wolves will "eat their children" or any other number of stupid things. Didn't we learn our lesson when the wolves were nearly brought to the brink of extinction not that very long ago? And the people were FINALLY able to convince the govt to correct the error. Aren't we supposed to learn from the past? Those we don't learn from the past are destined to repeat it and that's just what's happening now!! Predators and prey are necessary for a proper balance in nature -- and by predators, I DON'T mean men with rifles!! Humans have done so much to abuse Mother Earth that she is slowly dying and no one seems to care!! And they won't figure it out until it's too late.

have they not been killed off enough. so we keep killing of animals and soon that is not enough we become the hunted, because there is nothing else. remember we need all animals and plants for the chain of life with out them we dont live

  11. I am at complete lose as to what has happened to the human race. It appears that it has become so self-centered and greedy to the point that they will do nothing unless there is something to benefit their selves. Why has the most majestic and spiritual animal being targeted? They are no threat to man as far as their prey they normally take the sick or weak, which is a benefit to ecology. And as to the cattlemen remember we are the ones encroaching onto their land without attempting to make accommodations same as in As the past proves the Government only does whats best for them not the everyday person.the past with the Indians and their brother the buffalo.

In 1944 Aldo Leopold wrote: "We reached the old wolf in time to watch a fierce green fire dying in her eyes. I realized then and have known ever since, that there was something new to me in those eyes - something known only to her and to the mountain. I was young then, and full of trigger itch; I thought that because of fewer wolves meant more deer, and that no wolves would mean a hunter´s paradise. But after seen the green fire die, I sensed that neither the wolf nor the mountain agreed with such a view".

Wolves came to the American continent well before "human beings" did (at least before european settlers did), what is going on with humankind? if we can say we are humane.

I welcome you to visit my blog www.lobogrismexicano.blogspot.com, both in spanish and english. Congratulations for yours. Any effort to create awareness in people about the importance of this magnificent animal and all wildlife is worth double. Best regards.

  13. I have been breeding 5 species of Wolf for a few many days. Last Saturday morning at 8am; I received the results from lab tests that showed high doses of anti~freeze in my Alpha Wolf and I was told that there had been too much damage done to his internal organs for him to recover. So, therefor.. I had to make the decision to "put him down".

His name was frei~doof. He had been given the nickname "freak" for his attitude. Let me explain: I'm sure everybody knows the loud and proud fat man that will ((not)) shut up.. well, ((he would)) around freak. The growl, the mo~hawked mane and salivation was very intimating to ((all)) regardless of how ten foot tall and bullet proof that you ((think)) you might be. Although, freak ((never)) would attack ((unless)) need be.

He would "heel" with Show Quality, I trained him to do everything that a dog could do ..and ((more). He would do so by verbal command, hand gestures and believe it, or not.. by my just ((thinking)) the command. If I would not open the window to my vehicle so that he could stick his head out the window.. he would rip my rear view mirror off of the windshield with his mouth and then, drop the mirror in my lap and ((I was so very glad to have him in my life)).

Yes, that might sound "co~dependent" to some of you.. even a bit masochist.. but, you see.. I'm sure that you have heard the saying "dog is so loyal that you can throw it against the wall and it will come back wagging it's tail" ..well, that is ((not)) loyalty. Man has inbred the Wolf in order to do so. If a man was to throw a Wolf against the wall.. the Wolf would wait for that man to go to sleep and mess up his favorite laptop.. and I guarantee you that he ((will)) know which one ((is)) your favorite. So, man inbred the Wolf because man could be Wolf's Master.. ((I)) just want to be their friend. And ((that)) is how my Creator wanted it!!

May freak find "Principles.. ((not)) Personalities".

I pray you and yours are well.:*.
Love, light, and peace.. your friend david AKA Dancin Wolves
