In 2006 an amazing film was made for National Geographic called "Extraordinary Animals in the Womb".

Although the technology of Ultrasound had been used for years to look into the human womb and examine the unborn fetus, this film gave a first time look at animal embryos. The film was made possible by using technology that was developed by veterinary scientist, Thomas Hildbrandt from the Leibniz Institute for the Zoo and Wildlife Research in Berlin, Germany.

Hildbrandt had spent the previous year to the summer of 2006 taking ultrasound images of elephants, dogs, hares, and apes, etc. These amazing images were then given to the film's producers. National Geographic then added a fourth dimension of time which allowed for viewers to witness some amazing sights. Some examples were a baby elephant swinging its trunk in the womb, a tiny puppy sucking on its paw, and an embryonic dolphin swimming in it's amniotic sac.

The film offered an amazing view into how animals develop. What is so stunning to realize is that the development of animals is very similar to that of humans. Once you realize that, it becomes impossible to try and categorize animals as less than humans which science has always proclaimed in the past. Below are some of the images that were used. Prepare yourself to be in awe.
