Red Panda Freaking Out Over A Pumpkin

The Red Panda is a very endangered animal. This is because their population is way down, their natural habitat has been continuously invaded by humans and they have been hunted too much.

Red pandas also start to mature sexually at 18 months or so but do not reach full maturity until they are about 1-2 years old so it takes longer to reproduce.

As the human populations in the areas where they are found rise, more of the trees they call their home and the bamboo they eat is cut down. Also the pollutants from the development damage the soil so the plants they eat do not grow as well. Some people continue to hunt them just for fun. Deforestation is however the main cause for their endangerment.

The video below shows a captive Red Panda showing off and playing with a pumpkin. Protective breeding in captivity may end up being the only way to save these endangered animals.
