Last year, President Obama made these remarks at the third White House Tribal National Conference:

"So this new relationship represents a major step forward. It is change. But I promised even more than that. I told you that as President, I would work with you to tackle the most difficult problems facing Native American families. And that's exactly what we've done. We passed the Tribal Law and Order Act, and began making Indian Country a safer place to live. We permanently authorized the Indian Health Care Improvement Act, and made quality health care accessible to more Native Americans." (Source)

I am Canadian n Obama is the first president I seen actually acknowledge the first nations people of the USA it's taken decades for these first nations people to have their rights be taken into consideration considering it was the government of the united states thats killed 1000's when they fought to keep their land and their culture... and people complain about the debt you have how can Obama undo that it four years when it took Bush 8 years to make it...You people should be proud of your President!

My name is Kendra Miller and im from the Omaha Tribe Of Nebraska, im happy that you ( Mr. President) acknowledged Native Americans and want a better relationship with our people, there is much work to be done and i for one, believed in you enough to vote "4 more years". I shook your hand (actually i grabbed your hand and wouldnt let go, lol) in Sioux City, Iowa. One of the discrepancies, the Government needs to change is "Indian"..as we all know, Christopher Columbus called us "Indians' and we ARE NOT IN INDIA NOR are we "INDIANS"..we are a proud people ..we are "NATIVE AMERICANS", it is blatant dis-respect to call us anything else, more importantly, please honor the treaties that were signed by our Ancestors and the Government, i pray for impartial treatment and going forward, we can find middle ground to live together in peace and work together to make this world a better place for our children.

The only thing the President wants is to make people think he cares. He will only deal with the Federally Rec. natives. Just remember Andrew Jackson!

It is my hope that we see our President's effort's in moving for word. How often have the previous president's had meeting's with Native American's to resolve issues. We all need to look forward and move forward as one Nation. And give our president the oppertunity to prove him self before we stand in judgement!

It is something in my opinion for sure. Its a start, but I want more done to listen to Native Peoples needs. Justice needs to be done/but never can to honor all that sacrificed and sacrifice today and have died. I as a Caucasian, consider myself to be a sister to Native People. I wish the govt would give them back their country! Unfortunately, we have destroyed it. I am so sorry for what Native People have had to go thru due to our lies and broken promises and power hungry selfish nature. I am praying that the president show action to the Native Peoples. I wrote to him about 2 weeks ago, asking for him to acknowledge Native Peoples, and to address issues that impact them. I am so sorry we have destroyed this country in so many ways. Love to all colors.
