'Lone Ranger': New Character Posters Released

Disney has released a new TV spot and character poster for director Gore Verbinski’s upcoming iteration of The Lone Ranger.

Based on the classic TV series of the same name, the film stars Armie Hammer as the titular hero and Johnny Depp as the sidekick Tonto.

This TV spot has a very heavy focus on the pic’s train-centered action sequences, and admittedly the CG looks a bit spotty.

Verbinski delivered some swell set pieces in his Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, though, so hopefully we’ll see the same quality on display in The Lone Ranger.

Additionally, on the heels of a couple of character posters for Hammer and Depp, Disney has released a new poster for Helena Bonham Carter’s character Red Harrington, who is described as a “dramatically coiffed, straight-talking, ivory-legged proprietor of a mobile establishment of lavish entertainments.” I’m pretty sure that’s fancy talk for Madam.

Hit the jump to check out the TV spot and poster. The film also stars Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, and Ruth Wilson. The Lone Ranger opens on July 3rd.(Source)

Depp met with the president and other officials of the Navajo Nation in April, and was presented with blanket. Although the members of the Navajo Nation may not have a problem with Depp's portrayal of Tonto, and we'll have to wait for the movie's release to decide whether or not it's a nuanced character (rumor has it there's a twist regarding Tonto's true race/identity) or just plain old red face.(Source)

  1. Johnny Depp is a wonderful actor, but why was a white man cast to play a Native-American? I thought we were past all that...?

You have to remember that Hollywood is one thing, "MONEY". There is no setting more important then the smell of money to Hollywood and it's small group of actors, directors, and critics. It's a culture that feels it needs no change in order to survive. It only needs you!!
