Is Wiley truly devastated at grandma's passing or is he having a reverse sneeze fit? You decide.

The deceased woman's granddaughter uploaded this video that shows her wolf crying at her grandmother's gravesite. She explains Wiley had not done that before and has not huffed and puffed like this since.

Wiley is a service wolf that helps veterans returning from war who suffer from PTSD through a program called Warriors and Wolves with the Lockwood Animal Rescue Center.

Some viewers have pointed out the wolfdog's behavior seems to be reverse sneezing, to which Sarah Varley responded by writing, "I am not a vet so I can't say if he's reverse sneezing...I can tell you that he has never done that before and hasn't done it since. I may be anthropomorphizing his actions but its how I'm choosing to deal with loss…" She adds Wiley is in good health.

Wolfdogs were long known as Wolf Hybrids until recently when wolf biologists made it clear that wolves and dogs are the same species. As a result, the term “hybrid” is not really appropriate.

Often people do not realize the kind of fencing that is required to keep an animal with any amount of wolf content in its’ blood from jumping out of an enclosure and which is unfortunately the reason wolfdogs are often kept in chains for life!

Other “owners” will sometimes actually release them into forested areas thinking s/he will revert “to the wild.” None of these are good options for the wolf who is quite often not allowed to be either with other dogs (kept segregated in the house with their human companions) or with other wolves (allowed to roam freely, eat raw meat, and be part of a pack). This is commonly when LARC gets a phone call to come get a dog that looks like a wolf out of a shelter. If we do not come right away very often the innocent wolf is destroyed.

When I had my first white sheperd and visit the grave of my mother, he was about 5 months. My mother died a few months before and he never met her. I was not allowed to took him with me on the cemetery. But it was very quiet and I did what was forbidden. We go together and let him run and I was very surpriced Bob ran to the grave himself. He choose it over more than 200 graves. He lay down and cry, when I came a few moments later he jumped up to me and was quiet again. I think that is very special, is it not? For me it was and still is. Bob became almost 13 years of age.

if any one who thinks dogs no matter what breed does not have a soul or feelings or love of their human companion then this video should prove that they do, after seeing this and still think they don't then they are inhuman... love her heart . to Anonymous.. Until you love an animal, your heart is only half open to love and life. I strive to be everything my dog THINKS I am. <3

We have 3 wolf dogs and they are the sweetest gentlest creatures. Timber the male is a big baby, Shyanne his sister is very timid and shy, Stikye' is also very shy and my little princess. They are smart beyond my imagination and know and sense things I can't understand. Of the three Stikye' reverse sneezes, rubbing her nose and forehead seems to stop it. It does not seam like that is what this wolfdog in the video is doing, and there are reports of dogs staying at graves for months or even years. We can learn a lot about love and compassion from our pets and wild animals like wolves but we have to be willing to listen and not judge. Steve Harding

You can feel his pain and sadnees - Animals - especially Dogs have a special bond to their pack that leaves them morning the lost of one to the death of them in most cases - I have owned dogs all my life and seen them greive in this way many times at the loss of one of the pack mates - they need comfort and closer as much if not more than most humans.

Animals are smart, smarter than a lot of people give them credit for. This dog is crying, I don't care what anyone says. You can tell, the anguish on his face and the sadness that emits from his entire being. My dog, a black lab, when you tell him we're going to Grandpa's (my Dad's house), he runs to the car and is crazy excited the entire way, when we turn onto my Dad's street, he howls a high pitched cry and carries on until he gets to my Dad's house and sees him. Without a doubt, this dog Wiley is mourning and feeling such sad loss for someone he loved and still loves. This is heartbreaking and moves the soul. Thank you for sharing - this is fact and confirmation for those who don't believe that animals really do share emotions and have feelings. I am sorry for your loss and may Wiley be reunited with Grandma at Rainbow Bridge when it is his time <3

Animals are wise. This one was letting the grief pass through him and not holding onto the grief, just the love. I believe that's why the animal hasn't done it again since then, it didn't need to. Much love, Tas

My Mom's dog would cry everytime the ambulance took her away - tears would well in her eyes and stream down her face. I truly believe that this dog, Wiley, is crying.

You should never touch a dog when it has such strong emotional reactions, because it reinforces them. Just stay calm and clear beside him, don't touch, don't even look at him. Tell him with your body and telepthically that you are there and that his painful feelings will pass.
It is important that the dog gets a chance to stabilize. And it cannot when you make him feel his strong emotions even more.

Michele Post, the dog you were referring to in the film was called Hachi. I saw the film myself & cried for 3 days after watching it, it moved me so much.Animals do grieve as we do & are far more loyal than humans any day. As far as Im concerned it is they that are the superior race & not us humans.

This is beautiful - thanks for posting it! We love the connection between animals and their owners - our cat loves me more than she does my husband and our dog definitely loves my husband more - he only pays attention to me if my husband is out of town!

I own a real wolf his name is jake and also cry's for my husband when he leaves to go to work. and dogs in general do have feelings and they really love their owners.so for those of you who has no heart for animals don't need them

That's so sad made me kind of cry to see the attachment and the broken and true emotion of a true friend.

I sincerely believe the wolf was grieving. He felt the lose for his mistress and her grandmother. animals are very sensitive.dogs and cats all have feelings.I know when I cry my little dog will jump up on my lap and she gives me kisses as if to say I'm here don't cry. That was such a touching story.wolves are no different when they are separated from their pack or when one of them dies they will howl and each howl is different.any way you look at it he was grieving.

  28. Unknown says:

They do that when they have heart worms too! Has he been checked?
