Around the world there are many stray dogs that roam in cities and country sides looking for food and maybe a little love and attention. Santiago, Chile is no different and is home to hundreds of thousands of street dogs that roam the city. According to Pro Animal Chile, the majority of the city's strays were either abandoned or not regularly cared for by their owners.

It is a hard life for these dogs because once they are living on the streets, they face grim conditions and the possibility of being put down if they are caught. Earlier this year, animal rights groups expressed outrage after at least 15 dogs were found dead. They were believed to have be killed in the southern city of Punta Arenas. The animal advocacy organization UDDA Chile accused a local bishop of calling for the deaths of the dogs after he said he was allegedly attacked by several.

In order to call attention to the plight of the many homeless strays in Santiago, two Chilean students decided to send a message to Santiago residents about them and to make them visible in a very unique way. They also created their heartwarming dog advocacy campaign video entitled "I Am Here."

The video was created by Violeta Caro Pinda and Felipe Carrasco Guzmán, and it follows volunteers around as they tie balloons onto strays in the capital city's La Cisterna area. Each balloon contains phrases in Spanish, such as "Do not mistreat me," "Scratch my neck" and "Give me love."

This urban intervention initiative was intended to raise awareness about the "reality of life" for the many animals that live on city streets, abandoned and homeless. It turned out well for one lucky street dog who was adopted in June by a visiting family after the pup photobombed a picture and followed the group around for most of the day. Enjoy the heartwarming video below.

Sure hope people will start taking them home now that have noticed them!

It was wonderful to watch. Hopefully someone cares enough to give them a forever home.

  3. I feel very strongly about dogs as I have always been brought up with dogs. They are the cogs of the earth and without them we would be no where. I hate people who are cruel to dogs aswell as other animals.
