Watch Queenie the cockatoo feed spaghetti to the Malamute dog Kenzie. These friends are really into communicating and caring. The gentleness between them is wonderful to watch. Enjoy.

Note: Cockatoos prefer to eat seeds, tubers, corms, fruit, flowers and insects. They often feed in large flocks, particularly when ground-feeding. Cockatoos are monogamous and nest in tree hollows. Some cockatoo species have been adversely affected by habitat loss, particularly from a shortage of suitable nesting hollows after large mature trees are cleared; conversely, some species have adapted well to human changes and are considered agricultural pests.

Cockatoos are popular birds in aviculture but their needs are difficult to cater for. The Cockatiel is the cockatoo species that is easiest to care for and is by far the most frequently kept in captivity. White cockatoos are more commonly found in captivity than black cockatoos. Illegal trade in wild-caught birds contributes to the decline of some cockatoo species in the wild.

According to the IUCN and BirdLife International, seven species of cockatoo are considered to be vulnerable or worse and one is considered to be near threatened. Of these, two species—the Red-vented Cockatoo and the Yellow-crested Cockatoo—are considered to be critically endangered

A team of scientists from Oxford University, the University of Vienna and the Max Planck Institute conducted tests on ten untrained Tanimbar Corellas (Cacatua goffini), and found that they were able to solve complex mechanical puzzles (Via Wikipedia)

  1. As one of our pionus parrot pteribird's staff, we have learned the joy of parrot guardianship as well as the problems.

In a perfect world, these wonderful birds would not be poached, their environments would not be decimated, nor would they be fragile products of bird mills, as our baby probably is.

So, she is as safe as can be, loved and free in our home and free from predation. Yet we feel sad that she does not get to be a full birdie

  2. I, pteribird, approve of this video:)
