Amazing footage of newborn wild wolf pups learning to howl will make your day

Wolf pups are whelped from late March to early May. In northern climates litters may arrive as late as June, and in Southern climates as early as late February. Litter size ranges form one to eleven puppies; with an average of four to six.

In areas where there have been intense activities to eradicate Wolves, average litter sizes tend to increase.Puppies that die during or after birth are usually buried by the mother.

Sometimes the mother will carry a dead puppy around in her mouth, showing the little corpse to the members of the pack. It has even been observed where pack members will take turns doing this until someone finally buries the dead puppy. In captivity dead puppies might be eaten, this behavior has never been observed in the wild.

For the first few weeks, Wolf puppies nurse five or six times a day in feeding sessions lasting three to five minutes each. Wolf pups are weaned at five to eight weeks. During weaning, the puppies are fed regurgitated food brought to them by their pack mates when they return from hunting.

The puppies will nuzzle and lick at the adults muzzle and lips to trigger regurgitation. At a couple months of age mothers will move their puppies away from the den site to what some call a "rendezvous site." This area is usually less than an acre in size, is near water, and is a place for the pups to play, romp, harass lazy adults, and learn their initial skills. Gradually the puppies start eating solid food and at twelve weeks begin to accompany adults on hunts.

Well of course they are not newborns - the article stated that at a couple months of age they are moved to a rendezvous site to co-mingle and learn with others in the pack.

I thank you for sharing this video.

Wolves are not meant to be pets!!!! They should all be free!!!! I just adore wild animals, but would never in my lifetime try to have one as a pet!!!! They are meant to be free, not to depend on humans for food, or anything!!!!! Unfortunatly, a lot of humans just don't care about what is best for the animal, but only for their own desire!! My desire? To see all wild creatures be and stay free and safe!!!!

Actually No I Don't Go To Zoos Or Circuses. Anything That Exploits Wild Animals For Our Entertainment Is Not Apart Of Our Family

I have a wolf and love him to death. I feed him but he does not depend on me for his food, I have acres in the woods that he runs on and he gets his wildlife too. ( He got a skunk about a month ago-err.) He sometimes prefers to sleep outside but when he wants he comes in and sleeps in his room. So to the people that feel like wolves should only be in the wild, you have no clue the loyalty, friendship and love your missing out on.

  24. earthdreamer says:

I actually agree....they should be kept wild, even if their life is short or hard....they are still free....born free, die free.

I personally believe that God put the animals on this earth for the people.... however the people choose to facilitate that gift is between God and them. I have a wolf... Her name is Sadie... she is well loved and taken care of... and she loves and takes care of me too. I am disabled, and she is my aid dog. It took her 6 months to learn what any other dog would take up to 2 years to learn, because she is so intellegent, and loyal! Are you trying to tell me that this is something that God does not want? Because I'm telling you, you are wrong.

Have raised Wolf hybrids for 30 years between my husband starting the tradition, to myself for 20 years. They are truly our family. Loyalty for life - lovers, pranksters, wise one's, spiritual, children for life, mates for life, protectors, wonder-meant, at awe to have the privilege to be allowed into their hearts, souls and minds. I tell our youngest right now every single day as he kisses me, "Thank you" for this privilege, as he softly puts his paw on my arm as if to say "Thank - Youuuuuu".....We have had many pack members pass to the other side, and now we have "Thunder-Dancer" who is white with black markings ever so beautifully on his face and back and tail. We have yet to have a full black one with those beautiful high percentage golden eyes. We are blessed.

  31. Sam says:

Not all "hunters" are uncaring human beings. I'm a hunter, a fisher, an outdoors-woman, etc. and proud of it. I respect everything I hunt. I don't "thrill-kill" and ALWAYS thank the animal for giving it's life so I may put food in my household. I greatly admire and respect the wolf. So PLEASE do no state "hunters/humans"....please say "some" hunters/humans...LOVE the video! I had a wolf/husky mix years ago...she was TERRIFIC!

This is the sweetest pup ever! I cannot bear to think how anyone could kill one. I love your website! I do not hate hunters who hunt responsibly and professionally with ethics. I do detest poachers and thrill kills. When I grew up, I remember at age six the many, many puma, coyote, bob cat and wolf bodies, bloody with many flies on barbwire fences. They (farmers and ranchers) hated all them all. I always would ask why? They deserve to be here too. I was bully unmercifully. I have not changed in my thoughts. I believe that all living things have a place on our Earth. It is if mankind, in general, will not stop unit ever tree, animal, and thing is gone until only dirt is left. I remain with hope that many of us will take up the baton for all wildlife to have their habitats wild and live free from harm. I remain hope filled by all the above comments. I never go a day on Facebook that I do not post a wolf art work or photo. I sign petitions, educate our youth, and do what I can financially. I will always support our wildlife. Sarah Carolann McCleskey Broaddus :) Can you hear the howl? I can ever so far away.

You must remember that Wolfs were the frist domestic pets of man. That was before man learned the art of cross breeding.
