Hollywood actor Rooney Mara has landed the part of the Native American character Tiger Lily in Joe Wright's forthcoming film "Pan."

After Rooney was declared as the cast, controversies have erupted concerning Rooney Mara as an "Indian princess" Tiger Lily.

This disparity has caused dissent among critics who have accused the film of "whitewashing" one of the remaining few Native American characters in the English literary cannon.

It has been reported that actors such as Lupita Nyonog'o and Adele Exarchopoulos were considered for the part of Tiger Lily before Mara was finalized for the role.

The movie has a cast that includes Hugh Jackman and Garett Hedlund.

The story follows an orphan who is taken to the magical world of Neverland, where he becomes a hero to the natives and leads a revolt against the evil pirates.

"Pan" is scheduled to hit theaters on July 17, 2015.
