This is (mostly) Dakota from the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary in western New Mexico. He greets people by jumping on them and licking their face...

Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary has been incorporated since 1994, received its 501(c)3 IRS status and USDA licensure in 1995 and is now recognized as one of the most experienced sanctuaries for wolves and wolf-dogs in the country.

The Sanctuary houses over sixty captive-bred wolves and wolf-dogs, most of who were rescued from abusive or neglectful situations. Since the animals were raised in a captive situation, they do not possess the skills necessary to survive in the wild and cannot be released. Sanctuary offers lifelong care to all of residents.

There possibly is not an animal more misunderstood than the wolf. Two schools of thought reign supreme: wolves are vicious killing-machines or are nothing more than a large German Shepherd. Both could not be further than the truth. Wolves are gentle, shy animals that care for one another but thrive best in the wild, not in a domestic situation. These misconceptions cause too many of these animals to be destroyed. Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary strives to teach the public about the real wolf - an animal that deserves our respect.

Wild Spirit feels that it is important to educate the public, especially children, on three major issues about wolves: 1-The wolf pack and their family structure 2-Wolves are not the evil, scary vicious creatures portrayed in the media 3-Wolves and wild animals are not pets (SOURCE)

Dakota reminds me so much of a friend (wolf) of mine ~ so very sweet, kissy, loving, funny, fun :). We rescued my friend from a human who abused him horribly because he wasn't a "pet". State laws MUST be changed to stop individuals from selling wolves/wolf-dogs NOW (yesterday.....). My buddy lived out his life at a wonderful wolf sanctuary, happy, healthy and loved for who he was <3 <3 <3 <3

  16. Wolves are very loving and affectioniate. Proud to be one.
