The story of a rare rescue in Lakeland has ended with an American bald eagle back where it should be.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials said it was released back into the wild this morning and immediately flew right to a nearby pine tree.

"It's why we're in wildlife, it's why we're in biology, to release eagles – and not just eagles – to through the whole rehab process … it's what we live for," said Angeline Scotten of Florida Fish and Wildlife.

Last month, it became trapped in a tree in a Lakeland neighborhood. One of its wings was tangled up in wire.

It was rehabbed by an animal rescue organization in Polk County.

The eagle is an adult male and is doing fine.
