A stray dog has become a hero after he saved the life of a newborn baby “floating on a pile of garbage” in the waters of Sitio Camansi, in Cebu’s Lapu-Lapu City, Philippines.

The dog was spotted by local Vilma Toring, who noticed the dog pulling at a white cloth from the pile of garbage under some stilt homes in the middle of the afternoon.

Toring immediately heard a baby’s cry and went to investigate and found a baby girl with her umbilical cord and placenta still intact.

The baby girl, who was believed thrown by her parents, was alive when a resident found her at 1:30 p.m.

The infant was covered with dirt and had been swaddled in the white cloth that the dog pulled off.

According to the SunStar Cebu, authorities believe the baby was born in the early morning and then abandoned. They are currently interviewing people in the area to see if they can find the infant’s parents.

The baby was taken to hospital to be looked after and was given a full check-up.

There is no word presently on what became of the stray dog who saved the baby.

  1. Beautiful story. I'm hoping someone is caring for the dog.

Man's Best Friend innately cares and instinctively protects all human beings, it seems.

forget her birth parents, find the pup and get it and the baby loving homes!

  4. Breaks my heart when they don't help the poor stray dog and treat it as though it was trying to get a meal. I hope someone had the compassion enough to find the pooch and give it love and a home.
